I agree with Mark. I constantly struggle with this dilemma: keep the portapotty sparkling clean so I won't have to fight the odors, and deal with the unseemly after-effects when emptying it as often as possible, on the dock (no volunteers for this action, so the general must go where the troops are ...

I installed the solar panel behind, attached above the engine and the rudders. I am sure it improves the speed, just as car fins and spoilers do.

It's something measurable, too. The boat is longer by some 48 inches.

If you want to hear your music from the cockpit, with the engine on, and if your speakers are inside, you'll need more than 100W and more than the regular car speakers--you'll probably need a powered sub-woofer for the low frequencies (the lower frequencies suck up most of wattage). That'll take up ...

Small plane pilots are also trained to come in for landing with the engine cut off--an analogous situation, I guess. Yeah, it is nice and reassuring to know you can do it, if the engine happens to quit on the downwind leg, and be able to quickly judge how everything changes. But under normal situati...

Battery combiner

Hello. I installed a second battery as soon as I got the Mac, two years ago. Added a pretty large kryocera solar pannel that I connected to the house battery. The other battery was the original one, connected to the engine. Between the two, I installed a Xantrex battery combiner (Pathmaker 100A) I w...

Catigale: Agreed. Problem is, the laptop runs on 14 V. So you need a device to bump up the voltage from 12 to 14. A typical invertor would change it from 12 V DC to 11o AC. Then you could plug the laptop just as you would into a wall socket, and the laptop's transformer will bring it back to 14 V DC...

You might want to sacrifice several days on shore. Since it's sweet water, it certainly comes from washing it--above the waterline. Day one: try washing (profusely) the aft. See what gives--water in the bilkge? Nope? then go to the middle section. And then the cockpit. Once you fint the section in q...

A few questions.

Hello everyone. I bought a Mac 26X two years ago, and have been lurking on this site, on and off. I found the discussion board a tremendous help in all respects, from mods to technical sailing advice. I have a few questions that, I am sure, have been covered so far on the discussion board; however, ...
