Re: Similar to MacGregor?

That MRS uses the front furler to raise the mast? I have often thought of such a thing on the Mac but it seems to me the angle is all wrong to be pulling from the top of the mast - an awful lot of force is pulling parallel with the mast when it is close to being fully lowered. How does this boat sol...

Re: Replacing sticky Rack and Pinion steering

A rotary system *can* have dual cables - for dual outboards. You need a single cable system for the Mac.

Lifelines - worse than useless?

It seems to me the lifeline height up top (not the cockpit but forward of it) makes them worse than useless - there is zero percent chance those will prevent someone from falling off the side, and a very large percent chance they will trip someone as they go over and end up in the water upside down ...

Re: Black fuler Genoa

You could argue the 150% is already a compromise between a jib and an asym spinnaker. Also the block locations on the Mac are optimized for either 110% or 150% sails. They are not in the right locations for a 130% sail.

Re: 98X wants 90hp or not?

Try another dealer :) some care and some don't. My dealer didn't care about putting a 60 on but he refused to put transom wedges on. By the way, is there some specific advantage to the Suzuki 90 for the Mac? (As opposed to any other brand) just curious since everyone on the thread seems to be lookin...

Re: Testing Judy B Sails

Thanks Judy. I've definitely been considering one of your CCZ sails. I wanted to ask - is there any way to set these on a furler that can be partly furled? As a duffer sailor I'm a bit nervous about handling a sail that size without the ability to let it out partially in marginal circumstances.

Re: Testing Judy B Sails

Where can I find that video? https://youtu.be/2USDP3HJbns Thanks Judy. The video refers to it as an Asym but I'd that actually a CCZ similar to what you sell? Any chance of similar performance on a stock 26X? :D it would be wonderful to leave a wake like that while sailing in low wind conditions!!

Re: Testing Judy B Sails

Well, shoot. I already have a Genoa and Main from Judy B. Am I out of luck for Xmas? :( Great video. We have a one of her headsails. Good quality stuff. I think a new main will be under the Christmas tree this year. --Russ No way.. You've got to get one of her new Cruising Code Zeros!!! Then report...

Re: Completely unfurling a 150 Genoa?

Yup!

Now that the sail is unfurled I see it's a Doyle sail - could this be OEM? If so it's almost 20 years old!

Re: Replacing sticky Rack and Pinion steering

Just a little update. This weekend I was really trying to characterize the steering with the rudders tied up very well (so that they don't slump when turning). This made a big difference, but I still experience some initial "static friction" at planing speeds. Once I overcome that friction it's easi...

Re: Completely unfurling a 150 Genoa?

This weekend I finally got a chance to try this - with the lower diameter furling line the Genoa completely unfurled no problem. So the furling line was definitely getting stuck due to diameter. I like the hand feeling of the larger line so I might try decoring part of it. I was also able to get up ...

Agreed - that's why I'm strongly considering a cruising code zero for next year to complement a jib.

Re: What to check on a used 26X?

Check for standing water or heavy musty smell under seat compartments (indications of water penetration). Check the chainplates (where the standing rigging connects with the boat body) for stress fractures or damage. Check the compression post for rust. These boats are basically a big fiberglass she...

Goo Gone has always worked tremendously well for me for sticky glue residue, and its completely non-toxic and smells like oranges to boot :)
