Re: Aft berth liner and blister job on 26X

Delamination. Water permiation causes delamination over time if left in the water. But that aside, blisters create drag. And, these boats are not fast in the first place. Bottom coating creates drag to the point of about 1 Kt. on a Mac. Also, Mac uses the cheapest gelcoat available. My first 6 months...

Re: X Rudders

Mac changed the shape in 99. The ends are square and the attach point ends are a different shape. They also changed the rudder brackets to SS in 99. I bought my X in April of 99. It has all the X changes.

Re: Hawaii/Oahu?

You had your M 50-60 degrees with reefed sails and full ballast ? That had to be scary. I've seen some pretty high winds in my X but never seen that with reefed sails and ballast. You would have had real trouble if you went over under those conditions.

Re: Aft berth liner and blister job on 26X

Al, All aft berths on X's are spongy but, not thin. The floor of the aft berth in my X is thick and strong. The cieling is of coarse thinner because it doesn't have to support weight. I just put styrofoam blocks under the aft berth and screwed closed the covers. I had my X in fresh water for the fir...

Re: would like to hear from anyone with 25 hp

bahama bound, I agree with Sea Griff completely. It is all depends on what you want the boat to do. I had a Merc 25, 2 stroke for 10 years on my X. It moved at 6-7 mph and went all summer on one tank of gas. At that rate mixing the oil wasn't a bother. Of coarse There was alot of sailing time in the...

Re: What Is Up With The Gate Latches On Our Macs?

Gary,
Learn to love your Mac for what it is. Not what it isn't. I bought my X new in 99 and love it more each year. As stated prior " a Mac is a canvas". Mine is now a masterpiece.

Re: Power loading - why it is a no-no

I ran into this last summer while loading my Mac. In Minnesota by the way and loading alone. I backed the trailer in and attached the boat . The trailer was not deep enough so I back up some more. One side of the trailer dropped in and twisted. Now I got the boat partially on the a twisted trailer. ...

Re: 26X Centerboard will not fully retract

esc, Retcoastie is correct. The board is probably plugged with mud or something else. A pressure washer wand may be the only way to get it out. I bought my X new in 99. It came with a nylon line. Same as your halyards. I have never had to change it. It is a much smother action than wire. Lifting the...

Throttle Throw

Hey Guy's I changed my engine from a Merc 25 to a Merc 50. Now my throttle throw from idle to wide open is 180 degrees. It was about 90 degress with the 25. They did not change throttle and shift cables with the engine change. This is way too much throttle throw. I have 14' cables. Any suggestions f...

Re: Stern Seats

Just remember guy's. There are no backing plates on those stern rails. There is alot of force applied by someone setting on those things. Especially when sailing with a 150-200 pound person setting on them. Sooner or later they are going to loosen up. Mac's are light boats and so is the construction...

Re: Pacific Blue Bimini on White Hull

Thx Brian. That was one of the things I've been concerned about. Lenght is the other. It seems to me that the standard 6' would be too long and cover the entire cockpit. I'm thinking about a 42" high one. 5' lengths are hard to find. At least at a cost a poor sailor can afford.
