Re: Load Rite 5S-AC25T6000102LTB1 trailer

Maybe these sketches will help. I made the first one to illustrate the calculation of the boat's C of G based on known values, such as trailer weight and CG location, and total weight and tongue load. The second one is just the same with some extra dimensions you might find useful. I wouldn't use th...

Re: Shroud tension for a MAC26M with rotating mast

600 lb sounds really high. I seem to remember something in the neighborhood of 300-350 lb for the uppers, and maybe 250-280 lb for the lowers. The lowers are adjusted to control the amount of bend in the mast after the rake is set with the forestay and the upper shroud tension is set. The lee side ...

Re: Short tow with minivan

The tow vehicle brakes also have to handle the additional 'push' of the trailer tongue if it has surge brakes. Surge brakes work by the trailer pushing against the hitch when slowing or stopping, so there's an equilibrium that establishes between the trailer brakes and the push against the hitch. Ma...

Re: Mac26X Cabin Stair Mod

It probably is. Somewhere around '99 they eliminated the ballast vent under the step (mine) then eliminated the step and the bump it sits on altogether (yours).

Re: Mac26X Cabin Stair Mod

That's what my '99 looks like. Mine doesn't have the vent under the step. There's nothing under the step. MacGregor just hadn't gotten to using the new mold without the bump-out and raised area where that box step connects. It's not worth the trouble for me, as I don't use the space under the helm f...

Missed the question about furling line fleet angle, which I answered above in green.

Re: Need advice re: new swim ladder for 26M

Don't know about the ladder on the :macm: , but the two-rung ladder on the stern of the :macx: needs at least one more rung under the water. That last rung is very close to the surface. It doesn't look like it until you actually try to use it while floating with just your head out of the water. It's...

Re: Shroud tension for a MAC26M with rotating mast

How does one crank down shrouds to 600 pounds? I've just been pulling down with my weight < 200 pounds and sticking in the pin. You don’t. With the MRS rigged and cranked down hard, you cut the forestay loose, adjust the side stays, then pull the mast forward and pin it, slacken the MRS, then check...

Re: New Custom 26X Trailer

I requested a quote for a 26X trailer last August. Never heard from anyone after I got the "we are working on your request" email. I followed up with an email in September but never heard from any one. I figured they must have had all the work they needed so I ended up refurbing my old steel traile...

Re: Best X Bimini

Unless you're planning on just motoring... standing room under a Bimini means no sailing with the Bimini (unless you're real short - My Admiral qualifies). There’s standing room for me under the Dowsar, and I’m 5’-11”. But it starts short of the end of the boom. That makes it a small Bimini, but it...

Re: is this forum for "trailers & towing" only or can we talk about tow vehicles?

With my travel trailer I can use a weight distribution hitch (WDH) and take some of the load off the rear axle, but I have never seen anyone do that with a boat trailer. Again, just speculation. always have to crank all the the numbers. :| I looked into that once. Someone makes a WDH for a pole ton...

Re: New 26x owner here

Side note, picked up a marinco solar vent. Did not realize how huge it was. Any suggestions on locations for mounting? I've read that some mount in the window for the head, and I'm more comfortable putting a 4 inch hole in the window rather than the boat... but will the near vertical position allow...
