Rudder Flip Up

Post by fritz3000g »

Hi there,

I'm looking forward to my Mac25 rudder modification this winter (NACA 012 and more surface area below and afore) and I'd also like to extend out the bottom of the aluminum piece so that I can flip the rudder completely up for travel.

I could go to a welder, but it seems like the lip on the aluminum piece would allow me enough space to get some metal of the right size/shape and just bolt it through. I could then attach the rudder to this extension so that the pivot point moved aft and I could tip it up completely.

So... wondering if anyone has made this kind of mod and has any advice? Particularly where I might get a little bit of thick, l-shaped aluminum to cut and bolt on.

Thanks!
