Hello All.
I noticed that the mast on my 26S has a through hole about 2 ft below the mast head
on the front side of the mast.
Could this be for a spinnaker halyard?
I know to fly an asym, you're supposed to put a tang with a block about 18-24" above
the head stay tang, but this one is up much higher than that.
What could it be for, if not for a spinnaker halyard block?
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Could have been an antenna, anemometer, a misplaced light, etc.

Or a TV antenna. Like mine had when I got it.
I removed it almost first thing, but that's another story.

Re: Mysterious holes below masthead
I was thinking those options as well, but it is a through hole, so there is a hole on either side of the mast
which makes me think, that there was a tang once for a spinnaker or something.
Hoe critical is the location of the tang for an asym when measuring from the masthead?
Could I use this location or should I go closer to the recommended 18-24" ?

18-24” above the forestay tang is where most folks put the spinnaker halyard tang. Sounds like that’s what it was for.
That’s pretty high up for an asym though.

That's what I'm thinking too. Pretty high up there...Tomfoolery wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2020 12:45 pm 18-24” above the forestay tang is where most folks put the spinnaker halyard tang. Sounds like that’s what it was for.

The PO has no idea, as to what those holes are for, he is not aware of
any hardware that should go there, neither is there another sail (asym) anywhere
that he knows of...
