New trailer needed

Post by rszobel »

I need to get a new trailer for 2001 :macx: . No idea what to get or if I have to have one made. Want aluminum tandem axle with surge brakes. Have original steel trailer without brakes. Someone once told me about a place in Baltimore that makes trailers for macs. Anyone know anything about this. I live within 2 hours of Annapolis in metro DC area. Any help would be appreciated. Rob.

There is one listed in the classifieds on this site. There is also a company in SW Florida who is manufacturing this item.

I have had my Aluminum tandem trailer since 2008 and like it.
Give Continental Trailers a call, think they are in N. Carolina. Bought mine thru West Coast Trailers here in SW. FL.
They know the specs. of the MacX.
I went with the 8.5 width but the 8ft. width will work just tight.

That's right Vizwhiz (have we met before?), although its actually been more than 2 years now since I purchased it in Nov 2011 for my 2000X boat. I kept the old trailer alive as long as possible with spray paint and rust killer, but eventually, constant salt water dunking is going to ruin it and I really didn't like the thought of a disintegration at highway speed so when my tires shredded earlier that year, I knew it was time to pull the trigger and get this beauty pictured here. I'm very lucky that many trailers are made in this area so I was able to shop multiple manufacturers.

Only on here...but I do lot of business over there and would love to see your boat some time...
I just remembered your search for a trailer.
(I also had boat-lift envy...) ;)

Dimitri, I looked but didn't see how much you gave for your trailer?

I need one and don't mind traveling a little. Going to see what I can get locally also.
But its getting time to get serious about purchasing a new trailer. I would like the peace of mind for sure.

My factory trailer rusted itself to death in 2007 (axle snapped) so I purchased a new Galvanized Trailer ( http://www.magictilt.com ) from a local dealer ( http://www.pamlicomarine.com ).. Had to have some slight (yea, right) modifications done to it. It has worked really well with no problems.

Changed to a straight post for the winch stand, added 2 Mast Steps to the winch stand to replace the original macgregor trailer ladder... magic tilt didn't have anything that would work.

Added goal posts too in front of the wheels, and kept the heavy duty guides that came with the new trailer in the back. Dropped all bunks down to the frame and had them add a V-Bunk up front similar to the original on the macgregor trailer. Total cost with modifications: $3000. Piece of mind: Priceless :)

I moved the trailer wheels and axles so the center point between the two axles lined up with where the jib winches are on the boat... helped bring down the tongue weight. (used the trailer picture from the sales brochure)

Model: TMCV 2224
Boat Length: 22'-24'
Net Capacity: 5720
Overall width: 8.3 feet
Overall Length: 28'-3"
Tires: ST205 / 75D14 C
Trailer weight: 1120

The tandem I bought came with the big upright bunks I was not happy with it til I I went back to the 2x6 bunks that lay flat .you can adjust those to the curve of the bottom .I have a extra tandem axle trailer here that I thought about using .its the coolest trailer I have seen .its so fully adjustable ...I have never seen another one like it .its tandem .light as a.feather .....even the axles are aluminum ....it would be perfect for.a.Mac ..

I'm curious about the bunks you swapped out for the up rights. I bought a trailer yesterday. A galvanized tandem axle trailer for a 23 ft. I measured everything and its within inchs of the mac trailer. I got if for $1200 and it looks new and fully adjustable, axle even slide back and forth easily. Seemed like a food deal so I got it.

But it has the upright parallel bunks. I have a few ideas to change them but I'm open to easier and better ways. Any help is grateful.

I messed with the upright bunks for hours and never got it where I was happy with them .I bought the upright pieces and the little L bracket that supports the 2x6 flat bunks .I took the big bunks off and with the middle braces against the flat part of the hull and took a little jack and lightly lifted each one of the braces until the bunks matched the curve of the hull ..now when I run back up on the trailer it cradles it and centers it self every time .
