Transporting engine while trailering a Mac 25

Post by Seadoc »

How best to carry a Suzuki 4-cycle 9.9 HP engine while trailering? Engine weight is about 110 lb.
A PO had reinforced the exterior area under the engine mount with 1/2 in Starboard.
Considering my age (70's) and engine weight I'd prefer to leave the engine on the mount during trailering.

Your thoughts.
Thanks and stay safe!

How far and at what speeds are you trailering? Are the roads good? A picture of your engine mount would help also.

Sumner has towed his 26S all over the country and sailed it to the Bahamas. I'm pretty sure he leaves the motor on all the time (along with all kinds of other gear). In pictures, it seems to ride pretty high off the ground.

I worry about this with my 26S. I have a mount that adjusts the motor up (and inboard) and down (further aft). That weight, if it bounces, may be putting a lot of pressure on the transom. But I only trailer twice a year, 50 miles to the lake and 50 back. I see no flex at all in driveway tests, so I simply anguish and leave it on the boat.
