Tattoo Yachts Website Issues

Post by LMSharp »

Help!

My dad called to ask why we don't have an pictures of boats on our homepage at Tattooyachts.com. He suggested, logically, that it would be advisable to actually show what we sell on our web page :)

It turns out that on his computer he can't see the photo slider that is the main feature of the page, and the pull down menus at the top don't work. He uses Internet Explorer 8.

If anyone has a few minutes to kill I would greatly appreciate it if you would look at our home page and let me know if you see wide photos under the colored band with pull down menus, and if the pull down menus work. If not, would you let me know what browser and version you have?

Thank you!

Works fine for me. Drop-downs drop down, links work, and big photos scroll automatically.

Windows 7 64-bit.
Internet Explorer 11
Firefox 26

I don't have my old XP machine handy, so can't test with that.

Hello Laura,
All good, with Windows 7, 64 bit, IE11 and Vista 32 bit :)

Problem with XP-Pro,32 bit!
The site will open but without the banner pictures. Only pictures in the text-body are shown :(
Maybe a issue with the old XP kernel?

Works for me with:
  • Firefox 27.0.1 (latest version available) on MS Windows XP Pro, SP3, 32-bit
  • Google Chrome 37.0.1700.107 m (latest version available) on MS Windows XP Pro, SP3, 32-bit
  • Firefox 26.0 on MS Windows 7 Pro, SP1, 64-bit
However, it does NOT work for me on:
  • Internet Explorer 8.0.6001.18702 on MS Windows XP Pro, SP3, 32-bit

Note the warning in the lower left corner of the window... "Done but with errors on page".

Similarly it does NOT work on:
  • Internet Explorer 8.0.7601.17514 on MS Windows 7 Pro, SP1, 64-bit

Similar 'Errors on Page" warning on that one, too.

Here's a snap:

So, given what I've seen in this thread we can rule out problems with:
  • 32/64-bit
  • XP vs Windows 7
  • IE 10
  • IE 11
  • Chrome
  • Firefox
It looks like a problem with support under IE 8, and perhaps other IE versions prior to 8 as well.

kmclemore,

You are most likely correct, of my 3 set-ups only the XP with IE8 failed. Win 7 and Vista that worked fine, run later versions.

Same results here as Kevin had. IE-8 seems to be the support problem. Another suggestion would be to slow the banner pics down a bit.

Hi Laura,

Internet Explorer versions 8 and earlier do not support HTML5 and and the "canvas" element that was probably used by your web designer to build the website.

The correct solution is to direct your web developer to insert code that detects the "user agent" (web browser) and if it's Internet Explorer < version 9, swap in a static photo for the canvas element. This can all be done with a few lines of Javascript. Another even simpler option is to issue a popup explaining that some features don't work in Internet Explorer and ask the user to return using Firefox or Chrome.

It won't look as good, but I'd hate for you to dump the tools used in the modern web to support long-obsolete web browsers.

P.S. Tell you're Dad it's time for a Windows 7 machine (He'd likely hate Windows 8 ). Microsoft is deprecating Windows XP and it's going to become a malware ghetto very quickly.

Same here with IE8. Other browsers seem fine. IE8 is considered rather old, however a lot of people still use it.

Looks like a compatibility issue with the flexslider plugin for Wordpress.
I would see if there is an update for it.

I use a similar plugin that works in IE8

I have windows 7 and I'm not sure of what IE version I have,
but everything seems to work for me on your site...
Ahh, wishing I could afford a Tattoo 26. Then I could
have a 26 M for Lake Tahoe, and a Tattoo for all other
places to sail. Or maybe the inverse... :(

I have Google Chrome and Internet Explorer on 3 laptops: Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 8.

The web site works fine using the Google Chrome browser on all of these OSes.

Internet Explorer 8.0.7601.17514 on MS Windows 7 Pro, SP1, 64-bit is the ONLY one that does not work.

Internet Explorer 9 and 11 appear to be working fine.

I am running Version 32.0.1700.107 m of Google Chrome on all 3 laptops.

Note: The web site works quite nicely from the browser of my Blackberry Z10 as well.

....for you.

As noted, it also doesn't work under IE 8 on XP, 32-bit.
