Discussion Board Policies and Expectations
The MacGregorSailors.com Discussion Board is here to provide a place for MacGregor/Venture owners and enthusiasts to meet and to discuss topics relating to MacGregor/Venture sailboats and sailing in general. Most people have a common sense feel for what is and what is not appropriate in our forums and most board members generally do a great job of policing themselves. We do, however, need to have a few set policies for everyone to refer to when the need arises.

Board Member Expectations and Guidelines
  1. Respect the Discussion Board Administrators and Moderators. We provide a service in our free time to keep the forum running efficiently. We will occasionally ask for input, but in some cases we will not, please respect our decisions. Also, we do edit for content, if you have an issue with our moderation, please contact the Administrator or Moderator directly. Posts to the Discussion Board questioning or complaining about Moderator or Administrator activity will be deleted.
  2. Profanity: Mild profanity/swearing is allowed in the context of general speech. Explicit profanity/swearing is not allowed, and under no circumstances will we allow any profanity to be directed toward another person. Posts containing profanity may be edited at the discretion of the moderators.
  3. Flaming And Condescending Messages: Messages personally attacking, calling names, or otherwise harassing or being condescending to another forum member or any ethnic or religious group will be edited or removed based on the moderators decision.
  4. Adult Content/Violence/Illegal Activity: Messages containing sexually oriented/violent/illegal dialog, images, content, or links to such will be deleted. Messages with links to or suggesting illegal activity will also be deleted. These actions could result in a ban.
  5. Thread Drifting/Steering: Please keep discussions on topic. Off-topic discussions belong in the Mac Members Pub.
  6. For Sale/Wanted Notices: Classified ads belong in the Classified Ads section of the website not on the Discussion Board.
  7. Avatars should be kept clean and inclusive of all people. No porn, racist images, or otherwise offensive images.
  8. Please remember that these forums are inclusive of ALL people, and we strive to maintain accessibility to everyone.
  9. The "Mac Members Pub" is a more lightly-moderated section of the forum for discussions of things not related to MacGregor/Venture sailboats or sailing in general. This forum is not archived for long-term storage and old threads will be automatically deleted. Off-topic posts in the other forums may be moved here. While more lightly-moderated, posts in this forum are still subject to the restrictions above at the Moderators' discretion. Classified ads and other spam are not allowed in the Mac Members Pub.
  10. Anybody who can live within these rules is welcome to participate on the Discussion Board. Members who abuse the rules will be warned by the administrators or moderators. Repeat or flagrant offenders may be banned from the board. If you cannot live within the rules please go someplace else.
  11. Keep an open mind: Sometimes you will be faced with a thread you might not agree with it's imperative you keep an open mind towards all inclusive people and a neutral focus when replying. It is our duty to steer the conversations back into a positive nature.
  12. Images: Please limit the number of images that you include in a post to three. If you want to show more images, please post a link to your online photo album directly. Otherwise, pages are just too slow to load for people without high-speed connections. Please use the Mac Mods system for posting mods. If you need more pictures for a particular mod, please met me know and I can increase the limit from the default. Don't just post Part 1, Part 2, etc.
Moderator Expectations and Guidelines
  1. Respect the Discussion Board Members and Guests. The Discussion Board Members make up this community. If you feel you need to edit posts for content, please do so with a light touch. If discussion board members have an issue with the moderation, please ask them to contact the Moderator or Administrator directly. Posts to the Discussion Board questioning or complaining about Moderator or Administrator activity should be deleted.
  2. Profanity: Mild profanity/swearing is allowed in the context of general speech. Explicit profanity/swearing is not allowed, and under no circumstances will we allow any profanity to be directed toward another person. Posts containing profanity may be edited at the discretion of the moderators.
  3. Avatars should be kept clean and inclusive of all people. No porn, racist images, or otherwise offensive images. If the user has one of these PM them and ask them to remove the avatar. If the user does not voluntarily remove their avatar, please contact the Administrator.
  4. Adult Content/Violence/Illegal Activity: Messages containing offensive / sexually oriented / violent / illegal dialog, images, content, or links to such will be deleted. Messages with links to or suggesting illegal activity will also be deleted. These actions could result in a ban.
  5. Thread Steering: It will become nessessary to steer threads away from becoming damaging towards the poster and other users. Our policy is that we do not allow threads to veer too far off topic, even in community chat, to areas where it would be very easy to get ugly fast. Please do your best to keep posters from getting too personal during heated debates.
  6. For Sale/Wanted Notices: Classified ads belong in the Classified Ads section of the website not on the Discussion Board. Spam posts of this nature should be deleted or moved to the Jailed Posts forum for evaluation by other moderators or the Administrator. If you delete a post regarding an item wanted or an item for sale, contact the member who made the post to inform them that it was deleted and that they are welcome to post in the Classified Ads.
  8. Keep an open mind: Sometimes you will be faced with a thread you might not agree with it's imperative you keep an open mind towards all inclusive people and a neutral focus when replying. It is our duty to steer the conversations back into a positive nature.
  9. Dealing with spam and potential "jailed" posts: If its "spam" IE. Lower Mortgage Rates, the famous PayPal scams or other known spam items you can just delete them. If its a user trying to advertise something move the post to the jail, PM the user and let them know we have removed their post and it is being reviewed and we do not tolerate spam. We can then make a decision based on what the post is relating to. The post may be edited for content and moved back to the forum or other actions may be taken as appropriate.
  10. Moderators should own a MacGregor or Venture sailboat. The specific model of MacGregor or Venture sailboat owned by the Moderator is not relevant. Within the ranks of Moderators, no attempt is made to maintain quotas of owners of specific models.
  11. Moderators may not use their ability to edit or remove posts containing content with which they disagree but which otherwise does not violate any of the above rules.
  12. Moderators who are unsure of whether a thread or post needs to be edited, deleted or moved should post to the Moderators Only board to get advice from the other Moderators. Posts containing questionable or offensive content may be moved to the Jailed Posts forum for review by other Moderators or by the Administrator.
  13. Moderators who abuse their position on the board may have Moderator status removed at any time and may be banned from the board.
  14. Moderators who have no desire to help us enforce these rules should contact the Administrator to have their moderator status removed.
