Missing Furler Parts?

I picked up an 02 x last weekend. I think I am missing some parts from the roller furler. This is my first one so I am not that familiar with them. I know I am missing the turnbuckle from the forestay that attaches to the deck.

I believe its the FF2 and I am missing:

I have not used a furler before. Is the stainless cup necessary? I am assuming it holds in the bearing. Could a plate be made to do the same job? Also is the bearing just a plastic spacer, or is there more to it? If possible, Does anyone have any pictures or links to pictures of these parts?

Okay - got a couple pics - hope these help.
This is the part you showed the pic of - B - Furling Drum Assy with the pin C - Luff Support Pin that goes in the hole you can see at the top.
The two anchor pins that hold the shackles (D - Anchor Pins, Shackle) I tried to loosen, but they seem to be in there pretty tough - can't tell from your pic if you have them or if they need to be replaced.
(Note: the little wire on the shackle is to lock the turnbuckle in place so it doesn't spin and loosen during use/furling - I took it off because I was disassembling the furler assembly and just stuck it on there so I wouldn't lose it)
Up inside your Furling Drum Assembly, you should see what looks like a light-colored plastic insert, essentially the bearing surface that the furler spins on...it rests on the Thrust Washer on that surface.


Next picture is of F - Stainless Steel Cup, with E - Main Bearing HDPE plastic (standard) and M - Thrust Washer (316 stainless steel - mine is stamped). You can also see the turnbuckle. The lower part of the turnbuckle passes through the hole in the Main Bearing. The stack-up is the Furling Drum assembly, sitting on the Thrust Washer, sitting on the Main Bearing.


This pic is the bottom of the Stainless Steel Cup, showing G - Antirotation Strap on the outside and the fork for the clevis pin used to hold the forestay/furler to the bow chainplate. The screws are screwed right into the plastic Main Bearing. Sorry that the pic is a little fuzzy.

Thanks! The pictures are blocked for me here at work, but thats exactly (I think) the info I was looking for. I am hoping to possibly fabricate some of the parts vs buying everything from CDI. They have the prices on the CDI site and they are not too bad, but if I can save some money I would rather put it towards a better quality sail.

If you're handy that way, it can be fun...
You might also look at posts from cookwithgas (Aubrey), as he built his own furler...might be some tips you can glean from his work.

If you plan on using a furler then seriously consider the torlon bearing upgrade ..helps the operation of the furler a lot

Um...if I plan on using a furler because I have one already installed, but don't have the torlon bearing upgrade...um...what do I do then? (if...then...else...?)

YOu buy it from CDI (about 90 USD?) and install it in about 5 minutes, yourself.

I wouldn't loose any sleep over it . I was going to order it, but Martin at Somerset Sails talked me out of it and he could of made more money selling it to me. Ours seems to work just fine without it. In fact I couldn't ask for it to work any better,

Not needed with the jib, but nice with the genny imho.

I think I'll choose NOT to spend more money at this moment (unless Cat sends it to me) and see how it goes with the old genny that's on there. It appears to be old sails, with the original Mac main (Doyle) and hank-on jib, and a genny of unknown origin/age that was on the furler (probably had a name on it, but I don't remember at the moment).

Thanks again for the pics and advice. I ended up just going ahead and ordering the parts from Tom at CDI, decided there are too many other projects that need done to get it on the water. Called CDI Monday afternoon and got the parts today. Debated the bearing upgrade since I needed one anyway, but in the end just went with the standard one. My turnbuckle came in today too, so raising the mast for the first time tomorrow.

Took it to the ramp to the water to test the motor. Found out the "new" honda 50 wouldn't go above 1500rpm under load. Tried running carb cleaner through it (no go) and on the next trip to the ramp one of the P225 Passenger car tires the PO put on the trailer blew out. Researched motor here and then cleaned the carbs this afternoon. The top and middle were good, bottom was another story. The main jet on that one was completely filled with algae. At least the carbs were not 't missing parts New tires and cleaned carbs are on now and hopefully the motor will be "new" as claimed tomorrow.
