Pedestal steer cable up-grade

Post by Highlander » Fri Jan 05, 2018 6:49 pm

Well now thwe site is back up here,s my latest Mods , installing a new BWY high performance steering cable up-grade

This is the plastic tube in the floor which comes up approx 5" above the floor inside the pedestal base which the steering cable goes thru along with all the wiring I have been feeding thro there over the yrs
So the steering cable has a large attachment nut where it connects to the rudder steer linkage down below aft

Well there is no more room for me to install the 5th & last cable thru there for my new MFD GPS/RADAR unit & there is no way that steer cable is coming out thru there without either removing at least half of all that wiring & there is noway that,s gonna happen way to much complicated work , so I decided to cut the big nut off the old steer cable so that will allow me to remove the steer cable thru the floor tube & give me room to install my last cable for my new GPS/RADAR
So I decided to make a new hole in the floor for the new steer cable the floor is approx 1 1/2" thick at that loc & here,s what I drilled out

Here,s the new hole in the floor

Here,s what I installed

I used a special high strength epoxy to seal the plywood around the hole & installed the tube up thru the floor from underneath then used a tie wrap to hold it up then filled the rest of the hole with epoxy to fill the small gap & seal the hole took three applications brushing in the epoxy with a small paint brush over 5 days allowing time for the epoxy to fully cure after each application then gave it a final coating of 5200 3M as a secondary seal

Have now removed the old steer cable & will get back at it once family that,s over for xmas leaves
