Best way to put on a 15' mast

Post by dlandersson » Fri Feb 09, 2018 7:02 am

A person with an X is thinking about doing the Loop or the ICW part of it. Is there a best way to add/mount a 15 foot mast for radios, lights, etc. to their X.

Anyone know of a source for this? 8)

Sounds like the perfect opportunity to retask someone's broken standard :macx: mast.

No, seriously. They usually break in the middle (or so it seems), so a half-height mast would be just right. Easy to raise and lower, and leave pinned to the hinged step, and the mid-point would still be past the roller. Make up some short side stays out of 1/8" wire rope (originals are 5/32") as they don't need to do much, as well as a forestay (also 1/8", which is standard anyway). No backstay.

LED anchor light, 3 ft 3dB antenna, maybe a Windex to aid in docking (or just a ribbon on a stay), incandescent masthead light (since it's only used under power), and maybe a pig stick for a club burgee if so inclined.

Using a boom and cut-down main sail? Jib?

We need to cut a mast short when someone orders a boom, long story. But sometimes we have short mast sections available and would be very happy to sell at a discounted price. Shipping is not too bad. Give us a call! BWY

I just saw a post from late last year in the front room where someone has a bent D mast for sale also...
