picture of installed sail pro auxiliary outboard on Xor M?

Post by Brian-Up-North »

I am about to buy a 6hp Tohatsu Sail Pro (25 inch long shaft) as an auxiliary for my X and a picture would really aid installation.

Does somebody have a picture of their auxiliary outboard mounted on an X or M that they could share?

Ideally a Sail pro picture would would be fabulous but any auxillary picture would help.

Here are two from the Mods section. Not Sail Pro, but they should help to give you ideas.

This one is for an :macm: , but that only means for your :macx:, you won’t need to make an adapter plate (which the :macm: needs).

The sailpro would be great on a Mac and you wouldn't have to mount it too low because of its 29" leg, not a light motor for a single cylinder 6hp at around 60lbs (27Kg) but they are great. I'm a bit sad I sold mine, but on the other hand the money went towards new sails and I use the sails way more than I would of used a kicker.

Ive had a 14kg 2.5hp on for some years on a X, and a 26kg 5hp yamaha. both short shaft. Use all the time, works well. but I mounted mine between the engine and rudder. not outside as seen others do. Pm for a pic as dont have a pic host

I used to use a 6hp Tohatsu longshaft on the starboard side of my X. Somewhere I have pics but can't find them right now. What I found was it wasn't enough HP for me (but then I use my X as a powerboat, and have a 70 Yamaha as the prime!!!). Several years back I needed the kicker, and it took me an hour and a half to go 3/4 mile! There was a 5-7 knot headwind and 2 or 3 knot current. And I believe my kicker bracket could have been installed a couple inches lower. What was a real pain was using the gear shift ..... very hard to reach. So I had a Garelick Aux bracket installed by my boat dealer, and bought a new 9.9 Mercury. Mercury has the gear shift and throttle located in the handle, so it is MUCH easier to operate. Here's a pic of the new setup (the pic on the left makes it look bigger than it is):
