Adding Storage
Storage is always an issue for our boating family of 5. I always love poking my head into other Macs to see what others have done to add storage.
I just received my christmas gift to myself, a few of these: https://www.ikea.com/ca/en/search/products/?q=tisken to hang in the head and galley.
I also removed the access panel from the farthest forward position in the V-berth, where all the styrofoam was. It was ridiculously moldy in there, so that's been cleaned out and painted, and a lot of the foam thrown out. It will be replaced with 2L pop bottles and ball-pit balls, but room will be left for a plastic container that I found at Walmart that fits almost perfectly. The volume of the container that is now missing in styrofoam will be replaced, and more, with 2L pop bottles throughout the bilges. So, more flotation than before, and an extra storage bin. And less mold. Seriously, it was a mold factory down there.

Re: Adding Storage
My Admiral had me put a couple of these on the inside and outside of the head door. Had to trim off the bottom row of pockets, but I put them on the sides of the aft bunk. https://www.amazon.com/MISSLO-Organizer ... B01N2JICUM

I used these Ikea suckers hooks... But after some time I do not use them anymore. It looks like very strong but exactely at the time when u want to use it it falls down... So I use now double sided tape to fix things.

Yeah, I saw those shoe-hangers on the Jill Kristy when she passed through our hometown, and thought it was a great idea. Richard and Jill had some on the far wall of the head, an otherwise useless space. I think I will get some.

I built a hutch on top of my galley

and if u r shopping at Ikea u might want to buy a dish rack like this one which just hangs on a towl bar

I can also remove it & fit it above the dining table , on the first pic u can see on the right side I have a clear plastic shower bin I have about 4 of these in the boat think I got them in the Dollar Store

Highlander how are you keeping that thing fastened tight? I keep seeing all these mods but I don't understand how everyone is fastening them to the fiberglass. ToddHighlander wrote: ↑Mon Dec 23, 2019 3:39 pm cubby over table

Re: Adding Storage
hey guy,s u,ll notice that there is a grab safety bar mounted underneath that cubby that will easily support a full grown man & the reason for that is

Look at this pic of my 7ft cabin roof top Genny tracks they r mounted to a 1" square alum tube with a threaded backing plate inside each one , each end is attached to stanchions and then there mounted to two double sided support brkt,s spaced evenly apart each one with four 1/4" ss bolts I cut out 4" round holes in the liner at each location made plastic backing plates out of cutting board that went underneath the the cabin roof between the cabin liner s/s bolts were long enough to extend thru the liner by 1/2" then installed liner covers 6" dia I believe Beckson makes them same colour as liner if u look at this pic below u,ll see one top right corner above galley hatch

the cubbie is made from laminated flooring that very much matches the original mahogany wood Finish the cubbie has an alum angle frame riveted together & all laminates r attached by threaded screw holes the cubbie is then attached to the upper brkt,s by two alum flat bar cross braces , I was not able to finish off posting this mod as the site went down ?, if u guys need more pics I,ll post the original ones again once I dig them up as there r in my lap top my desk top !

Re: Adding Storage
I received my order of a few Ikea TISKEN suction-cup hanging storage. I installed a couple and they seem to be super-strong and secure.
Here's a photo of the 26X head with all the new storage in place:

Down at the bottom right I have a couple of these:
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07FB9 ... UTF8&psc=1
They fit perfectly in that space and put almost no pressure on the mounting sticker, which is very strong and as lasted years on the one I have over the galley, without any sign of unsticking.
You can see a couple of the TISKEN modules in the photo too.

Re: Adding Storage
Hey Starscream,
In regards to the moldy forward berth you were first talking about I noticed that one of the posters (russ?) can't remember who - turned that entire compartment into a water tank.
I thought that was really cool because water tanks are great sources of flotation when they are empty or even part full. And a big tank like that would eliminate the need to store water bottles all over the boat for drinking water.
I thought that was a good idea for folks looking for more storage - eliminate your water storage by making it part of your flotation.

Re: Adding Storage
Hi Boat,
Good idea...the 26X needs some more weight up front, and less weight on the port side. There's enough room up there to address both those issues with a water tank.
Couple of small problems to figure out: the forward bilge access is split by a fiberglass bulkhead, making it hard to get a rigid tank in there. Plus I've already plumbed up a flexible tank under the galley and hesitate to go back and touch it now that it works. The flex tank wouldn't provide any flotation anyway. We don't drink from the onboard tank, even though we chemically treat it continually, it's just for washing dishes.
Right now I have found a tough plastic storage box at walmart that fits almost perfectly in the space. My ball-pit balls from Amazon should arrive soon to replace the foam flotation. I was going to use 2L pop bottles but no one in my neighborhood or circle of friends actually buys pop. I was thinking about going to the bottle-return machine at our grocery store to buy some returns off of people, but you know, Covid.
