Good luck with your cruising plans. When you get to Alice Town, be sure to check out the Dolphin House. Pretty amazing place and the guy who is building it is really a fascinating fellow. His guided tour is really worthwhile. I also recommend the bakery which is on the road on the beach side of the island, not too far from Dolphin House.

Thanks Chinook. Have you used the Small Vessel Reporting System (SVRS)?

I am still getting my boat ready to sail. If it is done in time, I would be interested in going to Bimini as well. Mine is a 1975 Mac 25. 6MPH seems kind of optimistic unless I make the entire crossing with the 9HP outboard. When you have done this before, were the older boats able to keep up? Did they leave earlier to arrive about the same time?

What happens if the winds have a northern component? Will the 26's go across in the big waves or wait for a south wind to calm the gulfstream?

As you mentioned in your other post you do not want to go across if there is a north component to the winds. Even boats much larger than ours will not make the crossing under those conditions. I wouldn't with either boat.

Coming back over from West End the waves were in two components.

One from the current SE wind and another from a previous wind direction. It wasn't dangerous but not comfortable when the two different direction waves would meet at the same time under the boat .....
