Happy New Year from Happy new owner - 26S
Well - - - Santa was really nice this year. I am now the proud owner of a 1992 26S. The kids and I have been out twice on Canyon Lake and I have yet to be disappointed. Wow - very exciting. 2nd trip we were out in 20 mph winds, made our way upwind to the Marina, warmed up with some hot beverages, then used the genoa only to get us home.
Set up with 3 kids - 35 minutes from pulling into the parking lot to floating away. The one hour towing from the house is easy. Take-down at the end of the day was 45 minutes.
For those inquiring minds .... 180 genoa with furler (what a great invention), swim ladder, 5hp 2-stroke, main sail cover, rail BBQ, trailer and all fiberglass in great shape, cockpit railing, all cushions inside and out, front wind scoop and hatch hold open at any angle thingy, inside like new, exterior 8 or 9 out of 10, two anchors with rope and chain, running and anchor lights, electronic depth readout thingy, and purchased from the original owners. $6,700. I consider it not a bargin but a fair price.
I have been having some fun with the "New Glass2" surface prep and restorer. It really makes the fiberglass come back to life. Very nice.
I plan to take off the anti-foulant paint that is below the water line since the gel coat looks great under there. Any suggestions? Scotch brite heavy duty cuts through it but it would take years of scrubbing. 100 grit on a sponge pad works better, but still tons of work. 80 grit used carefully seems to work well, but still tedious since I am very protective of my gel coat.
I will post a photo (of course!) if I can figure out how you all do that.
Wow - what a thrill and a dream come true. Can I retire early - - please .....??

Greetings Nelson - you are caught in the Board filter which wont let you post a picture until you pass 10 posts without p**** people off
(Sorry to do that to you, but this is how we eliminate 10E6 vgra-xd bots from spamming our Board)
You can post a few more posts to go over the 10 limit, or send a link to your pictures to any moderator and we can post for you
It's best if you send a link (photobucket for example) rather than the picture - that lets you control the link and picture of course.

Choke vs. Canyon Lake
Divecoz,
Canyon Lake is about 1 hour north of our home, Choke Canyon is about 2 hours south. Not the same lake, but a good question!

Welcome aboard the finest sailor's forum. We can't have too many TX sailors. As the number grows, so does the possibility of a large flotilla cruise somewhere nice... in those usual months long periods of nice sailing weather... Geez, it's been 22 F. here the last two days... brrrrr.
Is there a good map/chart available for Canyon Lake? Last time I was there I saw a 12 point buck... and I've since wanted to go back... for the sailing of course, but venizon would be nice....

We purchased our Max-X from a family at Canyon Lake, and when driving through neighborhoods there we had to stop for families of deer to cross lazily across the neighborhood roads. We saw deer standing, and laying around in lawns, carports, etc. totally tame and carefree. Beautiful to watch.Night Sailor wrote: Is there a good map/chart available for Canyon Lake? The folks selling the Mac-X to us mentioned that "No Hunting" is enforced, and deer have to be relocated occasionally because of overpopulation and dangers to traffic...

Canyon Lake map / info
I got lucky online by looking under Comal Park (Texas State Parks) on Canyon Lake. An ok map of the lake, but somewhat shrunken. Comal Park is closed this time of year, but there is a very nice (and free) boat ramp adjacent to the park. Follow the signs to launch ramp 5 after driving through Startzville and heading through the residential area behind it towards the lake.
Hey, maybe a few years from now we'll join up. A lot of little inlet coves to tie-up.
Map Quest is handy, especially zooming in and using the aerial photo feature. I printed up a multi page map to help me while on the lake.
Another good source of info is a w w w web site with the address LCYC dot net ...... the Lake Canyon Yacht Club web site. Their marina and clubhouse are very nice. They even have a pool. I may investigate .... later.
Still working to my 10 posts so I can show a photo! One more down.

actually Corp of Engineers
Comal Park is actually a United States Corp of Engineers park and information can be found their web site.
Sorry about the mis-information (Texas State Parks).

Don - our new 1992 26S is called the Luna Sea ....
... and I didn't get it until one of my kids pointed it out!
Anyway, the Admiral is considering a change. We'll keep quiet about the bad luck thing. After all, we have already sailed with banana's onboard. Maybe I will counteract all of this with a few rabbits feet?
Happy sailing,
Nelson Amen
