HUGE/UGLY Throttle control needs replacement bad!

Post by Inquisitor »

Hello all,
I have been reading over your web site for several years while saving up. It among several other sources have greatly contributed to my deciding on a MacGregor. Three weeks ago I finally took possession of my 26M. :macm: :) It spent another whole week getting an engine put on it. Unfortunately my limited experience with motor retailers has left me with a severe shock of a throttle control. :o Seeing pictures of other peoples tidy consoles and telling my motor dealer that I wanted a flush mounted console wasn't good enough. He had no pictures and promised me that Mercury should have a console to fit my need. So now I need to replace this thing.

I'm new so I couldn't add proper URL's, but here are pictures of the (bleep)

I have been told that I need to get an Ultraflex B184. Doing a little more research this time, I also found an Ultraflex B184Merc which seems to have extra hardware to hook to the Mercury cables. I have a 2007 Mercury BigFoot 60Hp 4-stroke and this monster Mercury throttle control. I am hoping someone can offer some advice on this subject... for instance:
  • Ultraflex B184
    Ultraflex B184Merc
    Some other throttle console
Are the cable connections that proprietary
Any recommendations on website to get a recommended throttle console.
Since this console has the key-lock on it, I'm assuming I need a separate key-lock to go on the dash.
Is there anything else I'm ignorant about?
Thank you for any help.

Welcome Mate, and congrats on the new boat! I don't have an M, and not too many yet have that new pedestal. However, I'm pretty sure the Uflex won't be easy to squeeze inside there, along with the factory steering gear.

Good Luck.

Edit: no worries KMC, deleting the extra pix.

This mod by Deja Vu will give you some info in the install. His is on the left side but it can be installed on the right side. I have an E-Tec version that was installed on the right side. I took pictures to the dealer and they promised everything would be as I wanted but I sure had doubts. They really did a better job than I thought possible.

I don't have a close up. It is a close fit and takes some patients but it works well. They actually used the cover on the left side to make a mounting plate for the right side. I still have access to the inside of the pedestal.

I got caught the same way  inquisitor but the E-tec controller is ever so slightly better looking than the Merc one.
Have just left ours there and don't even notice it any more.
A positive is that there is plenty of room left inside the console for other add ons.
A negatives are it looks like crap and you will need to seal where the wires exit or water will run down them.
Your guage is also not in a good spot if you want to install a wheelpilot later.
