Bow chocks for M19

Post by captainjohn »

My M19 has no bow chocks for anchor or mooring lines. I've seen mods where they are installed next to the bow light, but that location allows for no access for bolts and washers. I can't believe screws in the fiberglass deck would be able to take the load. I don't want to mess up my deck or tear up the inside of the boat. I'm going on a mooring soon, and hope some of you rare M19 guys can help me out. Also, is that cheap plastic bow cleat up to the task? I've never anchored or moored, so I'm just hoping for some advice.

Put a large treiangular backing plate under the deck and then bolt all of the cleats to it through the deck. Apply ample amount of sealant to all bolt holes

I installed a bow chock just last month and tried it out last weekend, it worked great. There is room beside the nav light underneath to get your hand and a small wrench in to tighten the nuts. I used large fender washers to spread the load. We've anchored for the last 5 or 6 years 2 weeks at a time and never had any problems with the bow cleat. They may be light for the 26's but seem fine for the lighter, quicker, and faster 19  . Hope that helps.
