Rain, rain, and more rain! Our trip in the San Juans

Post by Jesse Days Pacific Star 2 »

Well folks, smooth water, but torrents of rain most of the time. Met Doug from Oregon, nice gent. Deer Harbor, nice marina, clean, but not much to do.

Lopez Islander Marina, Nice town, but the marina was FILTHY, we'll probably never go back there. Dangerously shallow water at low tide. Leaving we were in 3 and 4 ft of water getting out of Fisherman's Bay.

Did I mention, LOTS OF RAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll post some pics on the next few days.

We saw that big storm coming to the Gulf Islands and we got out of town after a few days of rain. First 2 and half weeks in August were very nice though. Next time try Rosario on Orca. It is a resort with pool (in and outside), sauna and gym available to people who moor there at no extra cost. Also has a free bus to town. Rooms are $400 a night at the hotel.

Moorage is $50/night at Rosario--and worth it!

We have over a dozen boats from our club here in San Diego there for a cruise! I guess they can appreciate our moderate weather even more. Had I had the oppertunity though from all I have heard and saw in pics, I would've been with them right now!

The slips at Rosario were $50 a night but the buoy was $25. We stayed on the buoy as it is a sheltered area. People on the buoy were given full access to the facilities at the Rosario Hotel with a card key at no additional charge. This place has an interesting history, the rich guy who built it was given a short time to live and decided to build this place to take up his time. He lived something like another 40 years on Orca.
Talking about nice places, on South Pender Island the new Poet's Cove is very nice. We took the inflatable to Port Browning for the day as they have a new 19 store shopping center which is a short walk from the marina.

$400.00 a night! yikes! Does that include a cuddly female type bedwarmer?
