Spinaker size for X?

Post by Dave Mason »

Well.............Right or wrong, I just bought a chute for my '01 X for C$260 and I don't even know if it is a match or not. Originally came with a C+C 25 but the guy had never flown it. It measures 32 feet along the side where the sheets are tied to the bottom corner (that's sailorspeak), and 30 feet down the other. I guess I'll move my uphaul block down from the top of the mast to maybe one foot above the top of the forestay. So that's 25 feet above the base of the mast.
Is this sail too big? It has a hook on the bottom corner opposite to the sheets. What do I attach it to? Since it isn't exactly symetrical, is it an assymetrical?

I think shes going to be a tad bit too big........not to say you can't fly it. It will be a challenge.

I usually sail single handed and use the standard Mac Spinnaker, I think the Luff is about 25.5 ft. I attach the Tack with an ATN Tacker and use a 23 ft ATN Sleeve, works good http://www.atninc.com/tacker.html. I bought both the Tacker and Sleeve at SailNet, very good quality and service.

Spinaker size

Post by Dave Mason »

Yes, Timm, it is a bit too big, but it flies fine from the uphaul at the top of the mast. I'd hate to get broadsided by a gust with it tethered that high, so I put a block about a foot above the forestay on the mast. Now I need a bowsprit lower down to tie the luff off to........Does it ever end? (hope not!)
Thank you guys for your inputs

Talking about bow sprits, when is the new Mac spinaker with the extendable sprit going to be available? I'll be on the list to get one provided it is reasonably priced. Mike Inmon has had pictures of it for more than a couple months but I still haven't heard any dealers saying they are selling it. Anybody know anything?

I've got some on order but have not received any yet. I plan on selling them at a discount, as I do the other Mac sails.

Bow Sprit

Bill:

Do you have any info as to where and how the sprit will mount? I have a new bow roller & anchor and plan to get a windlass and would like to mount these without messing up the sprit location. TIA.

What do you do with it when you're not using it? Looks like the only way you would be able to access the anchor locker is to remove it.

That is a beautiful sail. Wonder if you can retrofit a retractable boom like that to the 26X? Bet it would run well with a genoa and a Gennaker like that flying.

It is supposed to work with a 26X from what I've read. Kind of looks like it's attached to the mast raising fitting in the back and then attached to the bow somehow...maybe at the tang.

Talking about mast raising fittings, I noticed the plate where my starboard baby stay is attached is leaking.

Bowsprit for X

Post by Dave Mason »

Why wouldn't it be possible to set a sprit into the bow by drilling through to the anchor locker on the port side of the forestay tang? Sounds like a winter project to me, but now that I have this genaker and it works so sweet, I'd like to check it out. I think those racing boats have bowsprits like that. HHHMMMMMM.....?????
