Sorry to leave
Sorry to leave
Hi guys;
I love my Mac 26X 2000. Single hand all the time. Narr. Bay RI.
We went out with a friend on a 30 ft Nonsuch and the little lady says WE need a bigger boat.
So I buy a 35 foot Beneteau. Now I own two boats. So the Mac is for sale. This baby is loaded ( I like the toys). The ad is in the for sale section.
Mike

Re: Sorry to leave
What a shame!!! Your wife had to insist on buying a bigger boat! Imagine being stuck with a 35 Beneteau! How awful!
There's probably a dozen guys here willing to swap situations with you!
But I'm not one of 'em..... The Admiral and I are already pondering the possibility of life on a catamaran in the future. She asked me if we should drive to the Annapolis boat show!

We too are looking to one day buy a 40 ft or so catamaran but we don't want to be stuck sailing the same waters only and want to keep our Mac M.

Re: Sorry to leave
I too would like a larger boat. Hopefully, it will become a reality in the next one to two years. Looking at Catalina or Beneteau in the 38-42 foot range.

Re: Sorry to leave
I want a faster boat! Hopefully later when the kids get a little older we can get that HobieCat 21 I've been eyeing.
But for now teaching them to sail on the 26x is just fine.
Glad to see you're headed in the direction you want.

Annapolis boat show is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED~! (especially for shopping the catamaran).KayakDan wrote: ... The Admiral and I are already pondering the possibility of life on a catamaran in the future. She asked me if we should drive to the Annapolis boat show!
I'm going again this year (Oct 9-13). I schedule April every year to attend Strictly Sail, held at Jack London Square in Oakland, CAlif. But I also like going to the Fall Show in Annapolis. Nearly every manufacturer will display there, versus maybe two-thirds represented out here. Just as interesting, the Vendor booths show every manner of marine widgets. I'll usually spend only a couple hundred 'impulse dollars.' But you get the opportunity to SEE all the widgets that could consume many boatbucks.
Perhaps the greatest OTHER advantage of Annapolis are the "Multihull Demo Days." Numerous of the multihull builders take reservations during the show, then schedule test rides for the few days after the show. This idea originated with Performance Cruising Inc. (PCI), a family-owned builder right in Annapolis. Tony Smith builds the Gemini and Telstar multihulls. He started offering test rides because his facility was just a mile away. Now, most of the multi-builders collaborate with PCI.
IMO, their Gemini catamaran is the most affordable and 'livable' boat on the market as a live-aboard (about $150,000?), and their Telstar trimaran is absolutely the best trailerable Waterbago on the market (about $100,000). So those are the special benefits I find at the Annapolis Show. Granted though, you'd need to schedule almost a whole week to take advantage of all above. Then too, you'd have a few days to also see some of Washington DC.
Re: Sorry to leave
I always find saying goodbye a hard thing to say so I always say "see ya later," or just a wave with my hand does it most of the time. It's like breaking up with a girl, it a hard thing to do. I think saying nothing is preferable to hear than a goodbye. To lose a friend neither offer or accept an invitatation.

Re: Sorry to leave
Hopefully we are not losing a friend, but gaining another non-Mac owning member that will share his insight. After all, there is more to sailing a Mac than just the Mac. Fair winds Mike, and keep sailing by here.

Re: Sorry to leave
Personally, I think it would be cool to have a big cruising yacht for ocean/coastal sailing and keep the Mac to be able to trailer to other destinations... best of both worlds

Sorry to hear you had to quit your MAC.'
The missus and I used to charter this old beauty...

Carvel Jarrah built as the personal boat of Len RANDELL, the famous naval architect for himself. 1970, and named after his wife. I did not have the heart to change the name.. Fifteen tons and I got 7 knots with only the main and jib...on a 20 knot beam wind. A really beautiful vessel. Had to sell her due to lack of customers. The missus wanted back into a house. The underwaterlines were just like the Cutty Sark.
Boo Hoo...
...but now have SEAHORSE...well. me and the bank...
