2 prong power connector?

Post by bcharris101 »

I have a 1976 22 ft Ventura pop-top sailboat. It has what I presume is a factory installed anchor light with a two prong watertight deck connection by base of mast. I just bought this boat and the male plug that goes from mast to deck is no longer on the boat. I went to westmarine to get a replacement and they said that they are different sizes for the 2 prong male connect that depend on who made the deck connection. Can anyone give me any advise on what connector will likely fit my deck connection, or can you tell me how to determine what will fit. The person at westmarine said that Since it is so old that none of the current ones are likely to work. I had thought that these were fairly standard. I am not sure but I am assuming that since the boat is so old that the connectior is not polarized, but I am not even sure how to verify that, the plug holes look like they are the same to me. Thanks for any help.

Instead of wondering which male plug may or may not fit, buy both M/F plugs and replace them as a set. Doing this will also give you a chance to evaluate the condition of the 30+ year old wiring and connections.

Or buy them both and return the one that doesn't work.

I am in process of replacing some of the wiring, I just dont want to take out the deck fitting that is already in boat. The wiring inside the boat looks alright, and I am replacing wiring from mast. It sounds like from what someone else said that their is only two kind of 2prong fittings, so I will by both if I can find a place that has them, west marine had none, they just told me that thier where different fittings based on who made the deck fitting, and that they could order correct one once I know what it is.

Perko is probaby the most popular manufacturer of through deck fittings.

On a 32 year old boat, I think I would pull the connector out and reseal it since if it isnt leaking it will be soon (even in fresh water heaven of Lake Erie and Ontario). Once you take that plunge, you can just replace it with a matching one from WM...the one on Niagara Falls Boulevard is the one to go to in the Queen City.

I think what you want is this, no?:

It can be had by visiting Defender here. You will find that Defender will be much cheaper than WM on just about everything. Hope this helps.
