I lost my mast and have been powering around without it.
I never made more than 20 mph with my Merc 60 hp 4-stroke usually more like 18 mph.
I don't at the present time have a GPS so I can't give exact speed figures. But the seat of the pants and wind in the hair thing tells me it has picked up a lot of speed. My engine picked up about 500 rpms due to less strain.
Maybe the 24 mph on a 50 hp thing is true, maybe.
Has anybody done GPS speed measurements on a boat with no mast?

When I first got my 97' X last spring the family and I took her out with no rigging just to get a feel for motoring and riding the boat in general. With all our gear , a family of four and a 50hp Nissan 2 stroker, we were able to hit 20mph according to our wheedl type transducer. We accomplished this several times that afternoon... That's gear and about 650 lbs. of people... I've never been able to get the rpm's above 4700. Not sure if it's the motor or the prop or just the weight...
