Porta Potty change out I need help
I have a few choices if I do this. and right now thru a freind for the next few days weeks I can get about 50% off this stuff $$$$$
1. Just convert it to enable dockside pump out...
2. Just add macerator pump and fittings and dock side pump out to my present 5 gallon Porta Potty holding tank
3. Change the whole dang system to a real potty with a holding tank and a macerator .
Can #2 be done ? Can I pump out from the deck and still have the option of the over the side ( underwater) pump out from the porta potty? do these macerators pumps actually suck hard enough to draw the waste up say 1 or 2 feet and grind and push it out?????
#3 what size tank if I go the full Monte has been used with success, and where did you mount it?
The full Monte will cost me about $500 for a china bowl pump built in or remote holding tank all fittings
I can get this :SEALAND 711-M28 Marine Sanitation System Only $569.00 USD for about ...$300.00
But as is so often the case this is a limited time offer thru a friend
Pretend its your money on the line, and try to remember I am not one of the big dollar earners on this board ... I am just a retired Electrician.....

Re: Porta Potty change out I need help
I have a macerator (JASCO) on my porta potty and eject out the side - about a 1 foot head on the head, as it were..it works great.
I go offshore, pump out, then push two buckets of water through the head to 'rinse'
I usually have to pump out twice (mid trip, end of trip) with 4 people on Cuttyhunk for 8 days FWIW. Last trip the girls were really good about using land facilities and I only pumped out at end of week.

Re: Porta Potty change out I need help
Option number 1 (no pun intended) is quite simple, I've had mine rigged that way for several years.
It does limit you to the volume of the Porta Potty built in tank, though. It takes so little time to empty I sometimes get funny looks from the kids manning the pump-out - "Is that all?"
It's a cheap alternative depending on your projected volume of use. You could start with this and then add the macerator and through-hull if it doesn't work for you.

Re: Porta Potty change out I need help
Thank You Gentleman. I am still vacillating my choice as this is a do it now or later pay the full cost humm back and forth back and forth.
I am just about to pull the trigger on the Full Monte and do it.... I will then have to wait I believe for a roller furler $$$ That price is what it is but the Head conversion is now or maybe never .....Even as sit here ........ I think I should just do it, and then just deal with the hank on Jib for this trip?????????

Re: Porta Potty change out I need help
Keep the potty, it uses at least 1/4 the water so you need at least 1/4 the tankage. Put a through hull in and another tank for more. Do not get the marine head because of not enough storage space. I took mine out because of that.

Re: Porta Potty change out I need help
Thanks guys , after reading here measuring and talking with my brother who will be helping me install a lot of stuff sitting at his house waiting for me and the boat. . .I too think its best to keep the Porta and add a macerator. Room on an M there just isn't the room, I dont think....
Re: Porta Potty change out I need help
On my
I installed the Sealand 711, It fits perfect in the enclosure and best of all it uses fresh water from my pressure system, so no holes below the water line. It is setup up with a Y valve and a macerator pump, so we can use a pump out station or pump overboard where permitted, also it is setup with a hose so we can use an RV dump station.
The system uses very little water and we usually only have to pump out once a week.

I have the setup with the macerators pumps, it does suck and pump out. Use 2 clamps on all hoses.

Re: Porta Potty change out I need help
Your not macerating and pumping out under your boat?? I am sure I am reading this wrong. Though there was .... a guy over in Punta Gorda who had a side discharge and he was asked to leave after side discharging in his slip by accident. . .fellow next to him was younger bigger and badder and a whole lot madder ...TomKat wrote:On myI installed the Sealand 711, It fits perfect in the enclosure and best of all it uses fresh water from my pressure system, so no holes below the water line. Discharge Black water (head) is illegal in the USA unless past the 3 mile or more limit. Most places, not in a marina or not water flow places, do not mind much if there is a good water flow. One does has to be careful inshore. It is best to go offshore to discharge and is legal.

Re: Porta Potty change out I need help
Here's my 2 cents' worth. I changed the head less than a year ago when I saw a new product at West Marine. The Dometic toilet by Sealand.
http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/st ... sNum=13459
Nice little video on that link. You can pressurize the water tank which will give you several flushes w/o need for electricity. Holding tank is 5 gallons. Attachment is much nicer than the Sanipotti. Also has a pumpout hookup, which is how mine is set up. The pumpout attachemnt has a separate vent pipe so I ran two hoses for both waste & air. Air goes through the hull just below the rub rail, venting full time. Waste pumpout is on deck with big stainless fitting and cap. The whole assembly on the waste tank is easy to remove without removing the hoses. In its place, you can pop in a long plastic dump spout with cap (included.) This is so that in a pinch, when the tank is full and no pumpout facility is available, you still have the option to take the tank out of the boat and dump. Can't remember what I paid, but I believe it was under $150. There is one modification needed for this toilet. Its depth is more than the platform in the
head compartment. To solve the problem, I had a plastic platform made with three small support legs, also at plastic. Took measurements, had Tap Plastic make the whole thing for like $20. Then I drilled the platform and attached to the platform in the head compartment, basically extending it. The three feet support the overhang. I mounted the fittings for the toilet on the new, larger platform. So farm, I'm really happy with the setup. Ncie and simple.

Re: Porta Potty change out I need help
I tried that but did not have enough head room. Took it out and put it on the floor. I now have enough room behind the head for a hanging locker. No wrinkled shirts.
With a vent in the head, there is no smells gained.

Re: Porta Potty change out I need help
What you have done with your 26M is exactually what I would like to do with my toilet situation.
I'm making too many trips to the dump station,
plus I have to take the sanipottie out and carry it to the dump hose. With this process the santipottie never completely empties - there has to be an easier way
to do all this. I like your idea. Do you have any diagrams about how you installed the hoses and the material you purchased to make this all happen? If so,
I would appreciate it very much.

Re: Porta Potty change out I need help
Charles,
I don't have a diagram, but would be happy to take a photo. I don't remember the exact hose diameters, but if you get the same kind of toilet I did, it will have specs in the instructions. If you get it at West Marine, you'll be able to match the appropriate hoses on the spot. Basically, you need a pumpout hose (I believe 1") and a vent hoes, around 5/16" Metal hose clamps and a deck pumpout fitting. Also a fitting for the vent hose. If you choose to stay with your sanipotti and if it already has pumpout fittings, you'll just need the parts I mentioned. Beene's setup is very similar but his placement was slightly better than mine. I was actually trying to copy his setup. Geoff, you're tuned in, perhaps you can post that photo you sent me. Otherwise, will post as soon as I can.
Cheers,
L.
