cost of macgregors

Post by bastonjock » Sat Jan 24, 2009 6:58 am

hi Guys

Due to the pounds weakening against other currences te cost of parts and boats has gone up :( last October i was quoted 450.00 GB pounds for a mast for my 26x,the same mast now costs 650.00,i was speaking to the mac dealer,he tells me that a new mac now costs over 30,000 gb pounds.

i am of course now angry with myselfthat i did not buy lots of gear at last summers exchange rates :)

Interesting point...

I don't know why but seems to me that Mac prices in Europe can be away from US reality

In Uk a new :macm: 25 000 €
France: 30 000 €
Spain: 36 000 €

I can understand that they are more expensive then in the US but differences between EU countries are very strange...

The prices are very inflated and recently when buying parts I was almost robed..
I ended buying original parts for HALF THE PRICE tax included.

Some business friends are thinking about becoming dealers to Portugal but info seems to be scarce.

They are also looking at Imexus.
Seems to have a lot more aggressive politic...

JT

We did import our :macx: boat directly from Macgregor California...
It went very well.

the problem with importing into the UK directly from the USA is C.E. certification and i belive that Rodgers daughter has the "rights" for the export market and she lives in the UK.

Hi folks,
as long as You live in the Euro-Zone it´s a good idea to check the prices from British boat supply dealer if some boat-equipment is needed. The value of the pound against the Euro is quite low right now (1 BP was between 1.02 €- 1.12 € in 2009, sorry for You in GB :) ), the sales tax is lower than in most of the other states of the EU and You won´t have to pay any customs or national sales tax. Also the shipping coasts are within limits. :) (e.g. about 20 BP for 5kg)
In contrast to that it doesn´t pay at all for EU-inhabitans to order in the USA :( . Even if the US-$-prices after conversion to € seem to be quite low customs and sales tax have to be added to this prices and it is called for tremendous shipping costs. E.g when I tried to order a mercerator pump for 120,-$ they asked for 180,-$ shipping cost :x (at two different mail-order-dealers, West Marine charges about 60$). On top of that customs and sales tax is charged for the shipping aswell by the GE-government :| .
I have an open order in GB for an autopilot system. I hope they don´t raise the prices before I will get it.

Recently I bought a complete rudder system. (Brackets, rudders, bar, engine connection)

After checking with a Macgregor dealer in Europe I spared + $1500 USD in a $3000 USD order. (Yes a difference of 50%).

Only because I ordered directly from USA.

And those prices include TAX and SHIPING ( $ 200 TAX + $ 175 Shipping)

JT

PS:It seems to me that US, Canada and EU should urgently arrive to a compromise to increase and implement trade between our economies (at least in industrial products).

I don’t know what are we waiting for...

Maybe one day we will se Chinese build “Macgregor’s” sold to Europeans and Americans

Like everything else ... :x

Rainier

I suggest you place a question on the main forum about your autopilot system.

I think that Raymarine autopilots for Mac's are all wheel systems.

Hi Jose,

I don´t have a question concerning the wheel steering system, I made up my mind and have allready ordered one :) , the New Raymarine SPX-5 Sport pilot E12206 from http://www.jgtech.com/shop14.htm. However it will take another two to three weeks until they can deliver it :( .

SPX-5 Sport is ideal for sports cruisers and rigid inflatable boats so whether its high-speed pursuits or the most leisurely cruise, let the SportPilot take you there. It is also ideal for smaller sports fishing boats, now you can prepare the bait while the pilot steers the boat.
SPX-5 Sport is designed for manual cable steered boats with laden displacements of up to 2000 kg (4400 lbs) and manual hydraulic and servo hydraulic steering up to 3500 kg (7700 Lbs).

You should ask if anione tried it in a Macgregor.

SPX-5 Sport seems to be for hispeed motorboats.

Sailboats need more lever on the helm...

I notice that the Falmouth-based distributor for MacGregor is no more and has been replaced by a Boatyard in Essex. Current price of a 26M including braked road trailer is circa £23,000 (37,000 USD) including VAT but plus engine. I tried obtaining a used 26X from the U.S. last year, but although it was a very economical way to buy - even after including freight, duty, etc - the recent requirement of our masters in Brussels to have any non-CE plated craft inspected and authorised could (according to the RYA) have cost an additional £4,000, making the whole exercise self-defeating (which is, of course, the whole reason behind the Directive in the first place).

I have a SPX-5 fitted. It came with the boat when purchased. Still debugging it (erratic compass behaviour) but when it works it is fine. ie it controls the stock factory steering load with motor attached no problem.
