Setting Honda BF50 Valve Clearance & Carb Sync?

Does anyone have experience in setting valve clearance on Honda BF50 (2000)?

I wanted to check the valve clearance (never been done) this weekend and did not have time to order a service manual. I have the specs and thought I would hack the procedure by looking at crank marks and current maximum current valve clearance, then set the valves to: Intake 0.13-0.17mm and Exhaust 0.21-0.25mm.

How about syncing the carbs? Where do you get the tool and what is the procedure?

I got the honda cd on ebay for 5.99 with free shipping. It covers everything up to 2005.

One note , you mentioned bf50, in the manual a bf50 is a 5 hp, a bf50a is a 50hp.

BF50A = Mine

It's not the cost. It's the timming. I wanted to work on the engine this weekend.

Ordered one just now off ebay from the UK. $8+ US. Item # 230324497424

I will still attempt the work on the engine tomorrow.

If you look at my post from May 16, 2005 12:49 pm, you will see that I described the process to rebuild and synchronize our Honda carbs. If you do another search on my posts you will see that I have described the tool needed for the synch process and the Honda part number.

I am sorry that I can not help you at this time with the valve clearance, as I am in Ohio and my boat and Honda repair manual are in Florida.
