weekend mods: cockpit lockers, table addition to stock
It was the annual Boyle Women out weekend, so after the Victoria Secret models left, I had time for Boat Mods sans interruptus.
I managed to install
1 Cockpit glovebox (wallet keys and safety stuff)
2 Cockpit locker (right hand side at foot level, just forward of fuel locker) - cruising stuff underway
3 and finally, a good Magma mount off the port transom
Pix to follow later today during my scheduled telecon " Why expedited shipping charges dont qualify for SECORS deferred status" seminar of 90 minutes duration

Re: weekend mods
Cockpit locker
West Marine locker SKU
Silcone Sealer (not 5200!!)
10 #10 screws
Measure carefully - make sure the door will clear the pedestal as well as the hole will miss the ridge inside connecting the two parts of the liner
Deep breath - cut the big hole!!!
Fit it, seal, and screw - voila!!

Wow, that looks nice from the cockpit
Question, though - what sort of trim does it have on the backside, i.e. how does it look from inside the cabin?
Also, do you have any concerns for structural integrity from cutting such a big piece of fiberglas from both the cockpit and the liner in that area? There is not a lot holding all that up from below, mostly the weight is hanging from the hull-deck joint as far as I can tell.

Re: weekend mods
Looks good, Steph. One note, though - I don't see where the corners of that cut were radiused, and I'm concerned that you may have stress cracking down the road. Good practice is to drill all 4 corners with a decent sized drill - like you did with the starter hole - and then just connect the dots with straight lines off the outer tangent of each hole.
The box looks great, BTW. I installed a similar box in my Boston Whaler Harpoon using a cup holder and an access plate cover... smaller, but just right for keys and phone to stay watertight in case of careless sailors!

Re: weekend mods
If you look close in the 'hole' picture you can see the corners were drilled out first - except for the bottom rearmost one which I actually boo-booed.I did actually radius that cut until it entered the hole (I think I did..... at least)
Nice smooth white finish on the inside (over starboard aft berth, which we dont use anyway.)

Re: weekend mods
Since I'm always looking for more storage room I am curious how much space there is between the back of the box and the hull inside. the box doesn't look as deep as the fuel locker. There was another mod where just the hatch was installed and a home made box was built inside with air holes to dry things out and some inside access.
Not sure which way to go. Yours looks the simplest of the two.

Re: weekend mods: cockpit lockers and simple table
Simple cockpit locker
A 24x 22 inch piece of starboard, Sureform on the edges (still not perfect) and two screws/wing nuts for attachment

Re: weekend mods: cockpit lockers and simple table
Trout - building the box is the way to go, but that wasnt in the cards for me. I decided I could have stowage for the million 'small things' that end up in the cockpit without letting any water down below.
Of course, it wouldnt be hard to make the box deeper for bigger stuff.
I have had 6 people eating in the cockpit off the 10 inch x 22 inch tiny table - this should be a lot more fun. I have designed lots of fold down versions of this in my head, but finally decided I can always stow a flat 20x22 somewhere....

Re: weekend mods: cockpit lockers and simple table
I took off the worst of the corners and edges with a sureform - might have done this after pix, sorry.

I have some 3/4 " thick high density poly but it's heavy. looks like you used 1/2"?

Re: weekend mods: cockpit lockers and simple table
1/2 inch correct. I got a piece from defender at half price due to a dent in one edge (which is in the table so I wont freak the first time the kids hit it.)
