Replaced propeller for first time. Marine greased the spline and torque the nut down good.
Ops. Blade don't turn like she used to. She don't turn at all.
Backed off a couple turns and slipped the cotter pin back in. There's sort of a scraping sound when I turn the blade (it doesnt spin) and I can't remember if was like that before or not.
I don't know the rules for changing out props and thought I'd better check.

Prop
Left in gear? You only need about 25-30 lbs. of torque......SS cotter pin keeps the nut from flying off.

I've always wondered what's right.
My nut always ends up right between slots for the cotter pin. It takes quite a bit of torque to get to the next slot. I've always left it one back. This has basically zero torque. There is about a 1/16" of slop between the nut and the prop. The prop will slide back and forth on the spline this distance. Probably not good, but I have hundreds and hundreds of miles on the motor set like this. Nothing seems to be suffering for it.
Would it be better to apply whatever torque it takes to get to the next slot?
My prop will spin freely in neutral.

Okay, Ill back off another thread or two. Make sure she don't wobble.
Otherwise, I'll ask this guy I intend to take the motor down to, to get the sand out of the housing and replace my precious impeller. (Wonder what one of them look like?)
One guy says $85, no sweat.
Other guy says, gees, gaskets and all; scratching his pants, might come to $135.
Imprecise practice. What do you think?
P.S. No I don't have everything flipped over backwards. Initially I would but following a proven pattern, I'm confident that it's all right side up.
