26 X layout
Hi since I am still looking I would like to see a plan of the layout of the X. Does anybody has a layout on the X and would be able to e-mail it to me. That would be great. If that is not too much I am also looking for a complete broshure on the X. I am checking the mod's here on a regular basis and I don't know if my Mac will ever see the water because there are so many very nice mods I like that it will take for ever to put them on. Regardless if it's a M or a X LOL
Thanks for your help

Here is the closest I have, it is my Storage plan which is drawn over the layout pictures from the brochure. Click on the picture for bigger versions.
Exterior

Interior

You can see the interior and exterior from almost every angle if you poke around the Mod section of my website. There's a picture of almost every nook and cranny. http://home.comcast.net/~duane.dunn/Mods.htm
Here is the main shot of my boat below decks. We've ditched the computer based entertainment center on the table for a 20" screen mounted on the forward head wall and a 12v CD/DVD/Radio installed under the table. It makes it more open below. I added a custom rack along the table against the wall instead. I haven't got around to posting pictures of these changes yet, but will have them soon.

I know there are links to scanned copies of the brochure somewhere on the web.

Thank you very much for your help. Looks great. I just like the head in the back a lot more plus I think it's a lot easier to put a shower in that way, Getting closer and closer to buy one

Re: 26 X layout
I've seen one X with a shower in the head. You certainly will not be doing any standing up straight in the shower, but it does have all the other required things. There is a floor pan that you can cut a sump into and enough space below the floor for the required plumbing. You will have to do some sealing to get a watertight joint between the floor pan and the head walls, but at least it is all fiberglass inside, no carpet or wood panels. You might need some sort of a seal around the lower part of the door area as it is just a butt joint with a gap. It does have about a 5" fiberglass lip at the door.
I too much prefer the head aft where it can at least be big enough to actually stand in (sorta). To me having the entire front open all the way to the bow makes the boat much more spacious. It also let's you extend the vee berth into a very comfortable sleeping area. We use a 1" memory foam topper and have installed stiffer foam in the seat and vee berth pads. We also use a curtain at the compression post which give nice privacy. Even with the vee berth extended there is still room to stand up and dress behind the curtain. Normally this only really matters to my wife, but on our trip last weekend we had my 18 year old son's girlfriend along for 3 days as well. It;s a nice feature.

Re: 26 X layout
I have a hot water heater on board, and a neat transom hot and cold water shower...the hot water heater is a 1500 watt Ariston 4 1/2 gal unit ( I cruise with a 2000 watt Honda generator). I will be working on puting a shower in the head.
I have a portable pad, made from a Walmart cutting board, that sits on the port cockpit coaming for my generator.
I had a choice of purchasing a new M, and I too much prefer the X layout, In my humble opinion thr M has better sailing performance, and is geared more as a daysailer, where the X has a more adaptable interior for cruising.
The head location, near the cockpit, with more head room, is more accessible, and does'nt block the visibility of the front windows.
I have an autopilot with remote control, when I go bellow to get a beer, from my Waaco built in chest refrigerator installed aft of the galley (where the battery was) , I can check out the windows and adjust my heading if nessesary.
I have enough room in my steering pedestal for, 2 stereo speakers, 1 vhf speaker, a 6 switch breaker panel, a horn, all the internal wiring, and accesories needed for my autopilot, Gps, Sonar, Radar engine controls, ect.
I hope the next generation of Mac's combines the best atributes of the M and the X . If you look at the sales numbers the M has not been as succesful as the X. I would love to buy a new powersailor, but if they keep the same layout as the M it wont appeal to me...every copycat powersailor has imitatated the X and not the M.

Re: 26 X layout
Personally, I would stick with the transom shower and not mess with one in the head. While certainly bigger than an M head, the X head is still too small to fully stand up in and I am only 5'-8". I've always thought one back at the transom made more sense. You can stand in the well just aft of the steering pedestal and have no drain worries at all. It's not all that hard to get cleaned up while wearing a swimsuit. If you really need to strip down, just buy one of those plastic inflatable shower curtains they make for the sun showers and hang it at the transom.
http://www.amazon.com/Stearns-B202SSH-0 ... y_sg_img_b
All this has convinced me to get our sun shower setup in the cockpit for this summers trips. Since I have a tall Dowsar bimini that has 6'3" headroom I think I'll just store the water bag lashed on top where it will get nice and hot and be out of the way. The bimini is located so far aft that the backstay passes through it using a special opening giving me the perfect way to route the shower head through. The inflatable shower curtain can be hung below the bimini.

Re: 26 X layout
If you want your X organized......git er Dunn!
I am still impressed, Duane, with your organization details. My only difficulty is I dont have a boathouse to store it in to keep the mildew out. So I tend to keep mine a little more spartan.
the sandvik shower box fits nicely in the cockpit sides. It was a little tight getting it aft above the steering. The only disadvantage with the sandvik unit is that nonstandard fittings when the hose to spray nozzle breaks. The standard sink spray doesnt fit that hose connection.
On those cool mornings tho.... The admiral sure appreciates the inside shower first thing in the morning. The general order is to wait until the boat is underway for that first shower anyway. (helps with the ventilation...... now that is a cold breeze of a suprise....)
I had the box and sump pump arrangement, but truthfully, it is a pain to get at the pump in the box from underneath the settee I would look at an arrangement which installs the pump from on top, rather than just a drain fitting in the head. That location is tough to reach, and prone to leaks.
has anyone put a regular 1 -1/2" elbow in the floor with a plastic tub drain and run and installed the hose to a pump in a better location?
Which sink/tub fitting is shallow enough to fit?

Re: 26 X layout
Hi Axel,
I, too, understand the mod sickness, and the extended delay for modifications. However, If I don't get my boat wet by the end of this week I'll go insane
Too many mods, not enough time
Just get a boat - any boat, but reletive to us,
or
or
Get wet and have FUN - That's what it's all about.
BtB, my P. O. put in the head shower. While it's nice that it's there, I don't use it. It is too cramped for any form of bathing & I'm also 5'8". It makes for a nice wet locker - that doesn't get all that wet
The transom shower is the way to go

Tangentair,I'll take Duane's
He's only a few miles from me and it would be no problem for me to pick it up.
He's already saved me mucho thought time on mods and organization, might as well just simplify the whole thing, that way I could have more sail time.

I had a long time dream of putting a shower into my
but I just killed it by putting in my stereo above the door - in a place where I can reach it from the cockpit and down below easily, without using up any 'good space'

There is no doubt that I will go with either a M or X. I might take me a bit longer to get it but for sure it will be a Mac. Than I will sail it for a season and find out the ranking of my mods.

Re: 26 X layout
One of the best mods that I've made to the 26X cabin has been to raise the level that port settee up to where it matches the level of the dinette seats and then to make a removable connector seat between the forward dinette seat and the settee. I then used the cushion from aft of the galley on the connector. This gives you a wonderful "L" shaped sectional type seating area. It's a dramatic improvement. It makes the cabin much more livable, extends your V birth and as a bonus gives some additional storage space. It's something that they should have done at the factory.

Rich
Do you have any pics of your settee mod? About a year ago I came across an X interior mod that converted the dinette seats, the port settee and the v-berth into one big wrap around seat. I believe it even incorporated placing a hinge on the table and folding it in half towards the starboard bulkhead, making that a part of the seating plan.
Thanks,
John
