Our 26x is HALCYON.

Firstly, Halcyon days, are reported to be the Best Days of Your Life. When I'm on my X, it's true.

Secondly, a tiny bird, called Halcyon, which makes its nest, ON the water, during the summer solstace, when the water is at its calmest. A good omen I hope.

Me, well my name is Brian, but they call me Crackles because that's what I do when I sit down. My joints snap, crackle and Pop. My grand-kids also call me Pop, and yes, I eat Rice Bubbles for breakfast and no, I don't work for Kelloggs.

Has anyone heard of the Name "Solar Wind " being used. I know if we register a vessel in Canada with Transport Canada then we need to do an official name check and get approval, but I didn't plan to go that far. I was thinking that this might be a good name, as my 26x is unamed.

Traderdave is because of being involved with stock market trading!!! So how is that going for everyone?

I had considered Solarwind but that's also the name of a server and network monitoring/alerting software package by Orion which I use at work and which has forced me to have to respond at all hours day/night. I need to escape work when on the water. :)

My list had narrowed down to Diosa Azul which means Blue Goddess and Galactica. I haven't 'officially' named her as it's too cold to apply vinyl decals but I've been calling her Galactica. It's definitely not the typical sailboat name and I've never been accused of following the pack. I hear this music in my mind when I think of my :macm: --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZdS2KKv ... xt_from=PL

The astronomical Sci-Fi, romantic geek in me likes Galactica for many esoteric reasons; plus I like the sound of the name.

As Sci-Fi dude myself, my first '02 :macx: was appropriately named "PROTEUS", from the 1966 film FANTASTIC VOYAGE. It represented one of my favorite movies (yeah…. Raquel Welch in a tight fitting rubber suit too!), my love of submarines, and the minor god “PROTEUS” which of course is a shape changer, perfect for this hybrid vessel we love.

But the new GALACTICA series is currently ranks as my all time favorite TV series.

Also from a science fiction background - the novel The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert Heinlein - Tanstaafl ( = There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch ). It seemed appropriate for boating in general, and the MacGregor powersailor compromise in particular.

Have three boats right now....

O'Day 37 Center Cockpit: "Freedom" - Pretty much self explanatory

Westerly Crrus: "Christian" - My daughter's name

Beneteau First 235: "5280" - Anyone who knows Denver, CO should figure it out. :D

Here's a bit of trivia.

In the past, it was considered bad luck to re-name your boat without going through a very specific ceremony or ritual.

Any guesses?

I am currently on my fourth sailing vessel...

Catalina 25 - "Trial Run" ... She was my first sail boat and I was lured into buying one after crewing in a few beer can races. Needless to say, the trial was successful!"

Catalina 30 - "Genesis" ... Named after the true beginning of a particular phase of my life....which later ended fairly brutally...

Formosa 41 - "Aventura" ... Spanish for "Adventurer"...I inherited her with this name and never changed it. I found it appropriate, since after the brotal ending of the above "phase", I lived on her for a brief time and changed the scenery around the vessel several times in the San Diego Area!

And now...being married and having two kids, we've opted to go the trailer route...which is what brought me to my :macm: !

2006 :macm: - "Call Me Irresponsible" ... Named after a Michael Buble song that had a fairly meaning part in the mostly physical beginning of our relationship! Which, has led to an amazing marriage and two beautiful kids!

Boat Name: Fast Sunday

What it means to me.

1. Fast Sunday is a religious observance of the mormons. Observance means obedience. I'm not obedient by nature. I pay obedience to the wind only.

2. Fast Sunday makes a Sunday go fast.

3. When I first saw the X I knew it was a different way of sailing, some of the first sailors I met back then were critical of the design. Fast Sunday is my way of saying don't take yourself so seriously.
