God - I hate windows Garmin Mapsource GPS interface problem

Post by Catigale »

I have one PC left in my house, since my Garmin GPS and Mapsource software isnt available for Mac OS (I can run windows on the MAC OS system of course)

Trying to download my last Cuttyhunk GPS track, I cant get the PC to recognise the GPS vis USB....worked fine last week. Reboot, reboot, driver installed correctly, i once had a brief flash of hope when my GPS reported it was connected, which was then dashed by the blue screen of death on the PC.

Im going to write code to grab the tracks off the GPS via Mac - at least that way my time is spent constructively.

I don`t have Garmin but have installed the Seaclear navigation program on my laptop and bought from Amazon a GPS BN-903s dongle.
However although the dongle is recognised by my laptop the Seaclear program does not. Maybe someone reading this can help me.I do not have any experience with navigation software.
Any help would be appreciated.

Try going on the Garmin website, I have just transferred from PC to MAC with garmin. You have to install map convertor & map manager, it is all explained on the Garmin support website. I also e-mailed them & they helped me through the process. I am away from home or I could have sent you all the files.

Regards

I have a US Global Sat BU-353.....

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000V5TV22/?ta ... i5avflwc_b

......and after using the installation CD I used "Device Manger" (go to 'control panel/hardware/sound') to set it to Com 4.

Then in SeaClear I used "Tools", then "Properties" and set "Rx2" to 4800 baud and Com 4. That made it work fine. Be sure and "Save" your changes as you do this.

I use "Tx/Rx 1" to communicate with the Garmin Map 76, so I can send waypoints to it.

I don't know if you have a need or not, but I have instructions on my site on how to convert the free USGS topo maps for anywhere in the US to work with SeaClear....

Besides charting a lot of inland lakes I've started to do some of the areas I have NOAA charts for as the topos can sometimes give other interesting info that isn't on the nav. charts.

Good luck,

Sum
