Hi everyone! New to me Mac owner

Post by Mike C. »

Hi Group!
I am Mike, and have been on this list for almost 3 years, and until now never had a Macgregor sailboat, but thats finally changed.
As some background, I got my first sailboat when I was 15 (30 short years ago), and have had sailboats on and off since then. I built a small catboat style sailboat when I was in college.

I also spend time on the darkside - powerboats. I have had at least one consistantly since I was in my early 20's, everything from ski boats, the dreaded Jet skis, and large sportfish cruisers.
I have been looking at Macs since seeing one at a boat show in 1990. I still have the brochure for that 26S on a bookcase in my office.
I had been looking at the X and M models, and was even putting a deposit on a new M, but that did not work out. The Admiral did not understand why I "needed" a powersailor and a power cruiser at the same time.
Last week I picked up a bargain basement 26D that needs a little TLC, but is in good sailing condition. I plan on doing a good bit of work to get her up to speed; some fiberglass repair in the usual dock gouges, lots of interior work/ upgrades, and probably new sails next season.
I am in central Florida, just south of Orlando, and usually do most of my boating on the Indian River ICW, local lakes, and the Fl. Keys.
Sorry to ramble on so much.
I look forward to being a more active participant with this great group!

Hello Mike,

Welcome to this board. I agree with David Mellon that you will find this forum very helpful and informative. I really like the boat in your driveway, and I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of your restoration project and - most importantly - seeing pictures of you sailing your restored boat. All the best!

Welcome and good on ya'.

You might want to get in touch with the Florida West Coast Trailer Sailor Squadron. They are very active in that area. They have lots of cruises and are very helpful to each other on projects.

Thanks for the warm welcomes!
I look forward to learning a lot, and hopefull contributing in a positive manner.

I look at the Conch Cruisers site often, but it looks like the group is slowing down. I hope it picks up, I love the trip reports. I would jump at the chance to do the Dry Totugas trip they did a few years ago.

"There is nothing--absolutely nothing--half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats." From Wind in the Willows. I can't remember the time when I wasn't involved in some kind of boat from fishing as a kid to water skiing to sailing. Did you build your boat in the basement like Gibbs on NCIS. If so tell us how he got it out? Welcome the the Legion of the Damned, we few, we happy few. He who sails with me today is my brother. Apologies to Bill Shakespeare. Fair Winds and Full Sails...Old Salt.
