I feel I addressed the bilge storage area "pretty well" for me .
I went to a Big Box Store and bought a Parabolic 2'x4' lens ( honey Comb) .. I was able to cut them to fit the bilge and make it a usable flat area.. I use among other things ... a Rectangular Plastic Laundry Basket trimmed to fit the situation / area to hold things in place. I had a Boat Transom plug in the vent .. thats all changed now , with my electric ballast, pump out.. I have 3 auto bilge pumps in the stern and have drilled some holes in areas of the bilge so all water, now goes to the stern. There are a few places .....where its captive..

I am very curious, any potential pictures? Walmart has a myriad of boxes and I am not certain what you are referring to.

Chuckle, my youngest son and I actually had a below-freezing campout on our new boat last December--while it was in our barn...

I will get the boat with no sails, and spend just a little extra on some better quality sails

Good idea! After our first full season, I wish that I could have afforded a mainsail with more reef points. That's in the future but it'll be awhile.

So yes I have ben good this year,

They are 2' x 4' Fluorescent Light "covers " Chrome Plastic Honey Comb "sort of" All things considered .... very strong .. easily cut to shape allow for ventilation and a flat bilge ... ty-raps can be used to hold several pieces together....as a one piece of solid floor .. Bilges are bigger than the seat openings allowing access to them. Once again My favorite number .... $50 .....for 2
With 2 you can make a flat floor under both dinette seats and the entire port side seating/ bilge!... for $50 Nothing ever gets lost or wet again in the bilge..

Most reasonable people would regard 2x the horsepower spec a little bit more than a 'notch' - especially for a first time driver....

More than 2X the recomended power, the guy is sitting on the side tube and then a small wave, perhaps a gust of wind.
If he was sitting on the seat, in the senter of the boat, I doubt this would happen, even with the bigger horepower.
This doesen't scare me from using the Kaboat, if the weather would cooperate.

It looks to me like the guy was standing in the boat - a no brainer for an ugly incident. He was probably lucky it turtled as I guessing that the outboard choked it self off with oil flooding the cylinders.

Happy New Year everyone
Me and the admiral came back from Halifax with the boat last thursday.
everything went fine but I was a bit worried aboat the roads as it was snowing pretty good on tuesday.
Fianlly everything cleared up, and we had clear roads going back.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee towed wery well! steady as a rock and plenty of power.
Now we just have to settle in and wait for spring

I just came back from a test ride on my son's Venture Of Newport that he just bought he got a very good deal on it.
There is some adjustements to do to the rig, but everything seems to be there.
So all in all the new year is off to a good start

It's a white boat, but I still think the winter will be terribly long

after what I've read on this forum it is worth it.
Then I'll spend some time shopping for some extras like anchors safety equipement GPS VHF and the list goes on.
I am trying not to go overboard and get the most important safety equipement for now, and then see
after a summer of sailing I will know more what I want.
I already got a Kaboat inflatable with a 2.5 hp Yamaha with the money I got for my old 16 footer when I sold it last summer.
So yes I have ben good this year, and not only that, I had to promise to be good for the next ten years

Its good that you chose to wait on buying your accessories . We didn't , ran out and started buying stuff before we ever put the boat in the water. A lot of stuff turned out to be useless , for this boat.
I just finished reclosing the 3" hole I drilled in the anchor locker hatch to mount an anchor line pipe .
Didn't work , locker to shallow to feed the line thru it , would have realized this if I had anchored the boat first .
Rich Johnsons book , guide to Trailer sailing , also suggests waiting on buying accessories .

Good book to read , by the way , written by a mac owner.
