Hammock on Deck Mac 26x
Hi,
New to this, new to my Mac 26x. Was interested in a comment I saw regarding a hammock tied to forestay and mast. Has anyone tried it? Is it all strong enough? I have a roller furler therefore no forestay. Was thinking of hiking out on a whisker pole or spiniker pole supported by rope to top of mast and anchored to the mast. What do you think would the mast snap?
Is there another solution I'm not thinking of?
Thanks.

There might be enough clearance if you went from the bow pulpit back to the mast. It might need to be set up at a bit of an angle.

If you do it successfully let us know your weight so and how much the mast bent. That way I can make an informed decision to try my 236lbs butt on it.

The lovely Princess Jennifer in repose

On edit: Tied to the gooseneck and pulpit. I made a couple jigs to get it higher and they didnt work.

We spent 2 1/2 months in 2005 cruising up the Inside Passage to Alaska. We started out in North Vancouver BC and went as far north as the head of Glacier Bay. The trip is described on the following website: http://chinook.home.dyndns.org:8080/chinookWhiteDown wrote:Brilliant will try this.... Chinook do you sail in cold waters? Alaska?
We'd love to head back up that way again one of these summers.

Hello,
That's a trip I'd like to take as soon as I can get enough days available in a row. So much job so little sailing.

A technical correction. You do have a forestay that your sail furls around and it's not that strong. There is no way I'd tie anything that heavy to it. You will notice Scott's brilliant setup is attached to the pulpit, not the forestay.WhiteDown wrote: I have a roller furler therefore no forestay.

Thanks Scott, That looks good. Just fine for a relaxing rest. I way about 180lbs but I'll post how much the mast moves for anyone else who wants to try. Chinook. That was some trip to Alaska. Will look at Baja now..

Yep, that's the way I use it, too. My 26X finally has a justification for its backstay. The hammock is a Coleman, but I got it for three bucks from Goodwill. I weigh 170. The only problem--no place to put the beer down in one lazy swoop
