Chinese Trailer Sailor
Anyone seen this?
Is MacGregor manufacturing out of China?
I don't check in as often as i should, so maybe I have missed this topic here.
http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/41125 ... _Boat.html
In Sep 09 I had a Chinese Manufacturer approach me, from Qingdao, (which is way north of Jiangxi), but i didn't go with his offer.
Pursued another path, which failed anyway!
Take my word for it, his offer was very very interesting. I have often thought I should go back to him, but I just felt it wasn't me.
Obviously he wasn't the only one thinking along those lines.
Be interesting to hear everyones thoughts.
Cheers

Re: Chinese Trailer Sailor
"24 MILES PER HOUR UNDER POWER WITH A 60 HP OUTBOARD"
Impressive, even faster than a Macgregor then
"LAUNCH AND RIG IN 10 MINUTES"
Even more impressive - these Chinese really know how to develop a product

Re: Chinese Trailer Sailor
I am always amazed at the chutzpah demonstrated by some companies in China. They did not even try to change the looks of the boat, or the advertising picture used. They copied the boat right down to the black oval on each side. The mast is stored differently on the boat.
I wonder what the interior looks like

Re: Chinese Trailer Sailor
My guess is that they posted an arbitrary range of numbers for pricing. They also listed $0.00

Re: Chinese Trailer Sailor
It says 0-150k, which is likely a "check the box" price range when setting up the listing. I'd believe it's either a "knock-off" (the chinese are adept at this), or it's a 'repackage' they are shipping in at actual price from Macgregor and hoping some poor soul will buy it from them at a significant markup. I can't tell in the pic, but it doesn't look like the original MacGregor nameplate is being swapped if that's the case.

I could not help thinking of an old Doris Day movie. "With Six You Get Eggroll"

And - they show the same MacM picture with Mike Inmon at the helm - caught red-handed! Now we know who's behind it!!

Re: Chinese Trailer Sailor
I suspect they are just reselling a new or like-new legitimate Macgregor boat. When you actually go to their website (http://www.hisonjetski.com/) they don't seem to manufacture any boats like this one... they do small speedboats and jet-skis.

Re: Chinese Trailer Sailor
thats not a copy, thats a Mac, nobody is going to copy the Mac trailer LOL.
I'm guessing that is the Chinese dealer but I'm surprised Roger is letting them claim to be manufacturing them
Anybody know someone at the Mac factory to find out?? On the other hand, maybe Roger is having them made their now, in which case I think I'll sell mine now as the mac bashing will become unbearable
That is simply a price range and means nothing. The more you buy the cheaper you get with Chinese companies. Somebody email the Chinese mob and tell them you are a US boat dealer and interested in the price of a couple of samples LOL and find out how much per unit for say 1000 pieces - that will get em all excited

Re: Chinese Trailer Sailor
We have just taken delivery of $5 million worth of cast iron manhole covers and if the quality of the covers is anything to go by then the chinese trailer sailers will sink at the first wave over 2 ft that hits them.

Re: Chinese Trailer Sailor
I personally think this is an American-made boat, but from my limited experience, I could suggest they have had someone buy and ship them an American Mac.
They will reverse engineer it with 'the appropriate percentages of modifications to allow us to do this'.
The return to someone like say me is, I get 3 free knock-offs (ex factory), and heavily discounted prices in the future as a partner and distributor.
They were seeking a 'silent partner'.
No matter. My views on not taking up the above offer - just didn't seem right, and speaking to the guy on the phone, he understood that.
My alternative at the time failed to materialize, so sometimes I Q my 'then decision', but that's history.
He explained how big their recreational boating market was becoming, and sent me pictures of some of the infrastructure they have already (in his area) - it is mind-boggling. If Mr MacGregor was 25yo, then that is where his expansion should be.
My brother visits China regularly, as does a friend (who is in insisting I go to the Canton Trade show with him) and both say the only reason you experience 'Chinese Junk', is because you are too miserable to buy the 'good stuff'.
Anyway, just my opinion so take it for what it is worth.
Cheers
