E tec high temp alarm
While using the boat under power the engine is hot alarm went off a couple of times. Once when the boat was plowing on a semi plane and once while idling in reverse. Both times changing the rpm silenced the alarm and I could not replicate the issue.
Ideas anyone? The boat and engine are 2011 models.
I plan on powering the boat again today to see if I can make it do it again.
It's Florida and it's hot. But still I don't think it should come on in normal use
Other then that a great day on the water.

Immediately take the boat back to either the Mac dealer (if they have ETEC mechanic) or to the ETEC dealer. Something is not right electronically! They will hook it up to the diagnostics computer and tell what went wrong in seconds - - -It's all under warantee!

Re: E tec high temp alarm
The very next outing (a week after having my first 3 year warranty check), resulted in a high temp alarm. Engine went into limp mode and I was livid.
Got it back to the Evinrude dealer and he took a look at it and found the cause to be (after having changed the water pump assembly), the thermostat. Thermostat stuck closed and water circulation was interrupted. So another 350 dollars was needed to take care of that one.
I raised a stink. It didn't work. I then put a knee to their throats (legally speaking) and they were more than happy to do it for free plus throw in a gallon of Evinrude 2 stroke oil suited for my application.
So have that thermostat checked while they're at it.

If you have run at these speeds and loads previously with no issue then I would agree check the thermostat. FYI when I run my 13.75 x 13 prop 24 gal fuel, 2-4 adults, WOT max. 5400 rpm I have triggered the overheat alarm. Switched to my 14 x 11 prop same operational load, WOT 5800 rpm never get an overheat alarm.
If the water pump is marginal could reverse suck in exhaust gas and starv the water flow? My local dealer recommended replacing the impeller at 5yrs. regardless of enginge hours.

Hmmm ok I will stop by the local evinrude dealer to see what they say.
A half hour seven knot cruise towing a dinghy and the motor ran fine excep the low oil came on. I filled the tank this afternoon.

Just check the water intakes aren't blocked with weed etc this has happened a couple of times and it doesn't take much at all.

Re: E tec high temp alarm
Ok i did stop in at the local evinrude dealer. While i did not ofcourse buy the motor from thm, i have bought other smaller engines from them so they know me. They were puzzeled by the fact that although my alarm went off the engine did not go into "limp" mode. They said to run it to see if the issue happens again. They will then look at it.
Looks like this week end i have to burn some more gas
I did also tighten the battery lugs. The manual specifically warns about alarm errors due to bad contacts. They advise agaist use of wingnuts due to them loosesning. That is what is on there from the factory. One was somewhat loose. I tightened it up about a turn.
Hope that was it.

Re: E tec high temp alarm
Probably was! Sounds like an excellent explanation - - - especially if you had to tighten each a "full" turn!
