Looking for a mast for a 1983 M25

Post by Kenny25 »

After working on my new 1983 M25 for over 6 months I was almost ready for my first launch. One of the last things I needed was for someone to show me how to rig the mast and use the tabernacle so I could get under the local bridges. I asked a local rigger if he could show me. He said he would be in the yard I keep her in working on another boat and would take a look. He came by and spent about 20 minutes putting the mast up then said he had to go. Not knowing any better I left it as it was. Long story short not long after we had some strong winds that somehow made the mast come loose and it fell forward, so now it has a nice bend in it. I'm in Long Beach CA and looking for a mast... Anyone have any good ideas? Thank you for any help I can get.

Kenny ..a boat that old you will almost certainly have to buy an extrusion from a rigger and then move the hardware over. It shouldn't be too expensive though.

Check with Minnies in Newport. Amazing how much used stuff they have and at a pretty good price. They might give you some ideas if they don't have the right thing. If you have to buy a longer mast then you can just cut it to the right length of 28 ft. The standard extrusion for the M25 was a sparcraft S-104, 28 ft long. I have an S-106 which is heavier due to mast head rig. Sparcraft used to be in Costa Mesa Now they're on the east coast. Also call Mac plant in Costa Mesa, maybe they have one laying around. Being in So. Cal. you should be able to locate a mast somewhere. Good Luck. Fair Winds and Full Sails...
