trailer jack handle free spin
the trailer jack that came with my boat trailer is free spinning (when i crank the handle, the gear doesn't turn at all so the handle is just free spinning by itself.) is this an easy fix or time to get a new one ? and is it worth it to get the 2-wheel version ? my boat is a mac 22 thanks

Re: trailer jack handle free spin
Mine did that a couple of years ago. It was a simple fix. Mine had sheared the roll pin off of the top horizontal gear. Replaced with a new one from hardware store. Took about 5 min. after getting a new roll pin. Do not remember the brand of jack, it is an OEM 1998 steel trailer.

MIne was rusted and broken the same way when the boat was first purchased. I was thinking of just replacing the entire thing with a bolt on jack. Anyone hae any experience with this?

Re: trailer jack handle free spin
I've sheared the pin twice on my OEM '98 X trailer jack. It doesn't take much cranking against resistance to bust it. Luckily I had a bolt on single wheel jack attached, too. I've given up on fixing the OEM jack, and I've bought a two wheeled jack to replace the single wheel since it was difficult or impossible to move the trailer over soft ground or gravel with the single wheel jack. Haven't installed it, yet.

Re: trailer jack handle free spin
I recently cut the OEM jack from my trailer and replaced it with a Fulton Brand, 1500 lb capacity model. It is available at West Marine,(WM # 7869886). The old jack was corroded internally from being dunked in salt water. I mounted the new jack in the same place as the old one. I'm very happy with this model since it bolts on in minutes, its salt water resistant, and it swings up and out of the way when it not in use.

Wow,, so you all still had the wheel on the jack? Mine was busted off before we bought the boat, ( I have it resting on a 4x4 block) and the entire jack is frozen and rusted, except for the free moving handle of course... Works pretty good with the block of wood. I'm just glad it was raised high enough to not interfere with any obstructions on the road.

Re: trailer jack handle free spin
My stock jack failed in a really annoying way...the pawl inside the jack tube came loose so it jacks up fine, but the tube will fall out from gravity. When the wheel got stuck onto the tube, it was really a pain to knock it off without the tube staying put. I've bought the Fulton bolt on jack as a replacement
