New to it
Just wanted to take amoment of everyones time to say hello.
Recently picked up a '73 Venture 2-22. Its in the process of preparing for this coming season here in the midwest.
I spent many of my weekends on my parents sailboats. Twenty plus years later I too have decided to get my feet wet.
I'm confident I'll be asking all kinds of rookie questions.
Appreciate your taking a minute or two of you time to humor me. -Steve

Cincinnati is the midwest? I'm from Owensboro, 140 some odd river miles down river (West) from Louisville.

BRUHAHAHA! Welcome to the Legion of the Damned. Pretty soon you'll be using words that landlubbers can't understand. You'll start looking at sail emblems trying to figure out what make they are. worst of all you'll start redecorating you man cave so it looks like captain Ahab's cabin. Seriously welcome. We had a '71 V-222 for five years and loved every sailing moment. They're a great boat, easy to sail and very forgiving. Lots of great advice on this site. Enjoy. Re: New to it
Scallywag - Welcome - I share your position, I have had a few lessons, crewed a few times and have now taken the plunge with an '81 MacGregor 25 swing keel. Have had it out twice and realized that I need more training before I can single hand her. In the meanwhile I am searching for time to upgrade cleats, rudder, and figure out how to get the instruments and electical set up the way I want them. Need way more time to devote to it, but just cannot seem to find any. Ask away and you will be helping me as well!!!

By the way, I am living in Clear Lake texas and have her in the water. If there is anyone who lives down this way and has some time and patience for a newbie, I will by the pizza and beer............

Are there any sailing clubs by you? If there are, contact them; I'm sure they'll be happy to help you.
If you can, take some lessons. They'll be worth it. I've seen too many new sailors who tried to learn on their own
and give up in frustration.

Y.B.,
Thanks, will look into it. There are a bunch, but I thought they were all "members" type clubs, now that I think of it, I should have gone there first.
Will let you know how it works out.

Hey Connaig. Most all sailing clubs are member types, but you can visit as a guest and they'll be glad to welcome you. The companionship is great and the advice is priceless. I was born in Dallas. Hook 'em Horns
