I just used Mcgueir's 3 part, kit for oxidation removal http://www.amazon.com/Meguiars-Marine-F ... B0000AY4YT on a moderately oxidized, 26m blue hull. I was very pleased with the results. The third step was the wax and it was just fine, but I have not had experience removing it.

I opted not to use the Vertglas, or Poli Glo kits because of what I read about the difficulty of removing them when it comes time to reconditon.

So my 2011 26M has light to moderate oxidation on the upper black accents (white hulled boat), one of my neighbors swears by WD40 and so I used a WD40 soaked rag today to basically do the upper 2 level black. Looks great, what are the draw backs?

What approach will seal and shine for 1-2 seasons?

Use acetone in a well ventilated place to remove the wax, then the work starts. Keep the acetone away from cleats, plexiglass, ... There are web sites like this http://www.detailedimage.com/Auto-Detai ... Polishing/ that cover the process. There is not much difference between car and boat except the gelcoat is softer but thicker. I did my 96 X last year with a Porter Cable. It was in bad shape, took too weekends and looks much better now, this year will be a litter easier. The basic steps are:
1. Remove Wax
2. Cut the oxidation (if required)
3. Polish
4. Repeat 2 and 3 until satisfied (use less aggressive pads and polishes with each pass)
5. Wax
6. Stand back with pleasant burn in all your muscles and admire your work.
