STOP THE PRESSES!!
We are possibly confusing TWO DIFFERENT UNITS! Mine is a " Shoot Thru The HULL" .. NOT a Thru Hull Unit!
Thru Hull Units WILL Forward View at what is for us Maximum speed.. My Brother has a Thru Hull Unit and does see forward far enough at all but WOT to avoid issues.. A Lot More money IIRC and I KNOW.. its a LOT More Work To Install... Mine is set in Epoxy inside the boat and it shoots thru the hull literally ( Many use a putty instead) and was a very simple job to install..

Like Our Boats..shoot thru versus Thru Huls are give and take.. Real Thru Hulls do shoot forward and do it well or at least my brothers does and I there by assume most do.. Believe it or not ?? His thru hull units, he has two.. actually effect his MPG.. Go Figure..We Needle each other a LOT about our choice in boats.. I ALWAYS have the last laugh..It doesnt cost me $2 a mile there ( on a good day) and back for every mile I move my boat.. We are both retired and I ??? Have lots of time. He just got back from a Dive trip with 3 of his adult kids.. Less than 500 miles and OVER 450 Gallons of Diesel HAHAHAHAA!!!!

For several years my shoot thru the hull Lowrance transducer has worked just fine. It is buried inside a big glob of plumbers putty.

Just about any transducer can be mounted inside without drilling holes. Just squeeze out a large blob of silicone caulk and plant the transducer in it. Try to avoid air bubbles. If it doesn't work, take a knife and cut it off.

A better way is to use a pvc pipe glassed to hull and fill with Veg. oil.
My silicon attachment is not that acurate when waves, passing boat turblance.
Good Old Boats on current issue explains what to do for the oil system.

I believe I was needlessly concerned about the mineral oil mess, and I figure if mine goes bad I can cut the cord and leave the sender or just knock the unit off the hull with a dead blow hammer and a wide brick chisel. Not sure why you have issues with Silicon mount.. I have done those as well on Other People's boats for them. Just a glob in the middle of the sender pushed down very hard and 2 - 5 lb lead shot dive weights held it in place over night..TTBOMK works great...
