Help with Suzuki
I need some help from the motor guys, I have a 2002 Suzuki DF 50 The water from the motor barely pees out at low idle and just spits out at high speed. I think i need a new water pump (This one is about 1 year old) i did the last one. I am in Curacao (The ABC islands) and there is no Suzuki dealer to get parts from. Is this motor branded under a differnt name? if so what name and is it the same year range? If i cant find the part local, who do you use for parts?
Suzuki four-strokes are also sold as Johnson four-strokes.
Brown's Point Marine sells Suzuki parts on-line. Don't know if they ship out of the continental US though.
Make sure the water hoses and pee nozzle aren't clogged. Run some weedeater line up in them.

These P holes often get 'clogged'. Run one of those plastic electrical ties or something flexible up the thing.
With my Yamaha, I had to take off the 'cover' and trace the rubber line up to the engine block. There was a fancy brass fitting it clamped onto. I disconnected the rubber line and with a piece of electrical wire, I was able to break the clog loose and it started squirting like a champ. Yes, right in the face.
Get everything set ahead of time because you don't want the motor to overheat, which may just take a few seconds, if there's something wrong with your impeller or housing.

I just reiterating what Sloop and Moe have said. A grain of sand will clog a pee hole. I have a Mercury 2 stroke on my powerboat. I use this boat on the Wisconsin river where I often turn-up sand. I carry a small diameter wire to poke up the pee hole. (sounds painfull). If that doesn't work I've removed the plastic pee hole as Sloop described and shot compressed air down the water line. There is a huge chance that just a little poke up that pee hole with a wire will fix your problem. I have had this motor for many years and never have had to replace the impellor.

Thanks for the input, I tryed the pee hole thing, (I used a red plastic tube fron my WD40 can) but it olny went in 3 inches. i think i will try and rmove the whole pee hole thing. do you guys know how this comes apart? i dont want to pull the boat out of the water (The ramp is real bad!) but i am hoping to get this fixed! the last thing i need is to have to shut the motor down when i am in the harbor! If some one can tell me if the pee hole thing pops off or screws off that would help, also i will sezrch for a Johnson dealer around also. I sure am glad this board is here now, when i was in CA it wwas easy to get info, here in Curacao it is real tuff! I would not call this place 3rd world but close! But i love it here. Now that work has slowed down i can get some time on my boat!
On my X the tohatsu 50 stopped peeing. Inspection showed that the rubber hose inside the motor had broken and the water was dumping inside the cover. Easy fix to repair the hose.

In the waters we sail in, the recommendation is to replace the impeller every year. The water has a lot of silt in it, and the grit in the water is very hard on the impellers.
I went 18 months on my original impeller. When removed, the motor was still "Peeing" and the impeller looked to be in good shape. I will replace the impeller again next spring.
For those of you who don't have a Suzuki dealer nearby, if you can find a Johnson dealer, the 50HP motors from Johnson are made by Suzuki, and the parts are interchangable. I know this for a fact because when I replaced the impeller in my motor, I used a Johnson part.

Durng prop testing, one prop sucked air down from the surface after a rapid excursion to wide open throotle causing to momentarily exceed the over rev limiter at 7250 RPM+, a month later (next outing) noticed a low flow in the pee hole. On investigation, one of the impeller lobes had torn off. Spent and hour and a half to find the little piece inside the water intake, found it. Put in the new impeller and all was well. A year later, just as a precaution, I followed the maintnance recmmendation for annual water pump impeller change for the first time.

Thanks for the help Guys I am going to go down this weekend and try to see if i can get it to P, I will take the hose to the pee hole off and see if i can clean the nozzle, i will also run Salt Away through it. If that fixes it good, if not i will wait until the water pump comes and then do that, ( 2 weeks and the shipping will cost more than the part) i will keep you all posted!

Rich, I battled the same symptoms with my 2000 DF50 last year...
First off the pee hole is only for your benefit so that you can quickly see that your water pump is working. Most of the water that is taking in for cooling is dumped out lower on the motor.
When you start the motor it's normal for the stream to be weak until the engine warms up. At that point you should see a strong stream. However, it doesn't take much to block a small pee hole. You could have taken in something that got jamed in the hole. However, that by itself won't cause it to over heat. I was unconvinced of that for a long time because it sure seemed like everytime it started running hot, the pee hole stream was weak.
Although I didn't believe it until I tried it, I was usually able to run a wire (just a regular piece of electrical wire) into the pee hole and it would clear whatever the clog was. I could usually let it idol for awhile and it would be fine. After a year of the same problem reoccuring I was about to just take it into the dealer (knowing they would end up charging me top dollar just to saying they couldn't find a problem).
Then one day I was again clearing the pee hole and caught what looked like a metal flake in my hand. At the same time the weak stream was again freed up. It took a while because I couldn't figure where it came from, but it can't be good when your motor starts spitting out metal flakes. A little later it came to me as I was flushing the motor. I went to BrownsPoint.com or whatever its called and order a new zinc trim tab. That is the small zinc by your prop (which is also right next to one of your water intakes). That was at the begining of last summer and I haven't had the problem since. The one I had was about 3 years old and my boat is stored in a salt water slip. I now plan on replacing it annually.

Most often using someone who vaca's often and having it shipped to their house state side. I have done this more often than I care to remember from Radios to 2 dozen bilge pumps to Truck starter and S.S. well pump.

suzuki water pump
Prepaired to change water pump on 2000 suzuki. For those of you
who have done this or seen it done. What happens to the rod that
controls the forward and reverse when the lower case is dropped?
Can you drop the case without detaching the rod first? Intend to start
project tomorrow when we are supposed to get a break in the rains.
