This may help others shelling out cash for their anchors. Would have helped me. So many choices, so little money. . .

My primary is a Claw (Bruce clone) so it got my vote but I also have a Guardian on the bow and often will use it as bottom conditions dictate. They are two distinctly different anchors each suited best to certain conditions. Initially I had two danforth style, one steel, one aluminum. Their matching capabilities bit me a couple times so I dumped the steel one and added the Claw so I had a wider range of capabilities. Even with two more specialized anchors, I still find I set both at least half the time.

I voted "other" as it will be a 22# Kingston Quickset (plow similar to Delta) on a windlass as soon as I install it. For now, I have three, 9# danforths on board, one on the bow pulpit, one in the anchor locker, one on the starboard stern rail.

I Would love to hear about your plans for a windlass...how?

I voted Danforth cuz I use it the most. In 10 years it only failed to set twice. Of course those moments were nerve wracking. I added a claw when we decided to go further north into the Canadian islands and it seemed the right choice. I also have a folded grappling that I can use if I find myself in rocky bottom conditions. Never had to use it though.

Fortress FX11. Fits in the M locker great with lots of rode. Works very well. Very light.

voted "other" as i have a buegel as main anchor (a simple galvanized one not this s/s art object). my 2nd anchor (although more used as the buegel because i mostly anchor on sand+mud and it s lightweight and easier to handle) is a fortress 16 (a fx11 would be fine but i found this one 2nd hand at a very good price).

I voted Bull.

I paid the expense but feeling a little more secure at night is worth it. I haven't really had the chance to put it fully to the test. It did drag in weeds last summer but performance improved with the addition of extra chain. Most of my over nighters have been spent beached or tied to a dock. Love that beaching capability.

I launch the Bull like a cannon off the bow.

All I have to do is push a little button in the cockpit.

My Danforth works the same way.



Upon inspection, a little kid asked me if they worked like a cannons.

Which Buegel size did you select and OK with that decision? Did you also buy the attached powerball?
