Just saw that you have a 1995 X, which means Rotary Steering (1999 and later have rotary)

You can have it for the cost of shipping (5 lbs, New Bern, NC 28560 to where you are)

I purchased my 99X in April of 99. It came with All the updates. None have been added since.I still have the original rack and pinion steering. It has always been very easy to steer. Only 2 fingers are required. Almost like it's hydralic. Maybe the cable length is the key. It hangs half way down to the rear berth sole. I must say however that I do have a 20" helm on it. Great mod.
