Finally, Finally and Finally I got my mac26m!

Post by pleal »

Dear Forum members,

I have been a member for almost one year reading all your posts and mods and saliving at the mouth to how, when, where I would finally be able to afford, buy and own a Macgregor 26M. I have been jealous of all of your great stories and beautiful adventures. Even the one's that the mods d'ont work out as planned! ;)
I'm up here in the North Pole, I mean Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Yes the french part!!! Not easy to get one here but I finally bought one today February 12th 2013.
A 2007 White Mac26M with of course a removable ENCLOSURE! I so excited I'm having a hard time sleeping. Thank you for all the encouragement I read on this great forum, and the macgregors for making such a great, affordale and pratical boat. Hopefully we will sail in the same waters someday!

Congrats on your new Mac Paul. There are several M26's sailing on Lac St. Louis so you will definitely not be the lone Mac on the water this summer. Where will you be sailing from?

Felicitations et bienvenue Paul! :D

The snow and ice will be melted before you know it, but until then I found the snowstorms to be a great time to study the owner's manual. You'll be all set and ready to go for an early start to the season.

I will be sailing it from Le port de plaisance Laronde for now (La Ronde Marina) Right near the old port of Montreal. I live downtown Montreal, Quebec so this was the closet Marina to my house. But I do plan to sail in Lac St-Louis this summer! I have also made reservations to go sailing at Lac taureau (Reservoir Taureau) I will be taking sailing courses this summer since I have NEVER sailed before, only powerboated. Maybe we can meet this summer canmac27?
Talking about the owners manual. I know this might sound crazy, but I read 3 times downloaded from the factory website BEFORE I even bought the boat. Maybe I'm becoming a little fanatic about boating? :macm: :?

Welcome Paul!

I hope to make the trip from my home port in Ottawa/Gatineau to Lac St Louis this summer. I have in-laws in Léry and on the South Shore, so maybe St François, but that would involve additional locks (I think).

If the timing is right, perhaps we could meet.

Good Lord, I just looked up Montreal on Google maps! Wow! That is really north!

You folks have got a lot to teach me about how to sail in such cold. What is it like in the summer up there?

BOAT, the summers here are awesome. Temperature in June, July and August is between 20 and 30 degrees C. September and May can also be quite nice, but October usually dips pretty chilly. Our marina closes on October 15, so I of course was out as late as possible the 15th, and it wasn't too bad, about 7 or 10 C -but I had to wear a toque...do you know what a toque is? :D
