Local West Marine is relocating and they have a partial spool of 5/32 cable at 90% off. It looks to be same strand as my existing cable, so at that price I've got to jump on it. I could go out and get a ball park estimate in trailering mode, but was hoping someone had more precise measurements.
thanks in advance.

If it is truly 90% off buy it regardless, it stores forever and you can buy a swagging tool anytime to completely re-rig your boat at your leisure. I dont know the answer to your question but believe me when I say it would add up real quickly if you looked at a complete re-rig.
Cheers, Dennis.

From the factory website I would say 78 feet.
CABLE 5/32" 1X19 STAINLESS STEEL OIL FREE 316 364 FT 78.0 46,800

80 feet would be safer to do both upper and lower shrouds. The headstay needs to be swaged, not nicopressed so you can't do it yourself. Both the headstay and the backstay are 1/8", although we do offer a heavy duty headstay that is 5/32, so you can go either way on that.

Todd, how much is needed for the fore and backstays. I picked up 100' at .32 per foot. Looks like I should have bought the rest of the spool. I guess I'll go back and see if the spool has enough for the fore and back stays.

Re: How much cable needed to replace standing rigging
It is, but not the type needed for that fitting. It's done with a roller swage, which rotates the fitting between very hard rollers and compresses the fitting to where it sort of flows around the strands/wires. It's not a tool most people would want to pay for just to do the odd fitting.island808 wrote:Is not a nicopress a swaging tool?
There are swage fittings you can do with a compound swager, like lifeline fittings, but the finished job won't look as nice as roller swaged fittings, and may not be as strong (known as efficiency in the wire rope world).
