Tell me your experience with your Spinnaker...

Post by m26roy »

:macx:
I will have a Spinnaker next summer and I want to know your experience.

:?:
How the M26x react with a Spinnaker?
How much wind do you take out the Spi.
What kind of modification have you done to install it?
Any coments would be great

have a nice day

Spinnaker

Post by Jack O'Brien »

I've only flown mine three times and never without the ATN sock. I would say the sock is very, very handy.

Pratical Sailor December, 2004 issue rated three snuffers. Their summary:
*The ATN is most rugged, most expensive, has lots of good features.
*The Chutescoop is cheapest, lowest weight, some questionable features.
*North's SnufferPlus is their preference for its lighter weight and cost versus the ATN.

I have the standard Mac/Doyle spinnaker. I moved the jib block 12 inches above the standard jib/forestay tang so the spinnaker would not interfere with the forestay/furled headsail. I guess this also allows using the headsail while the spinnaker is still hoisted and snuffed. Or, with a pole or two, one could even run wing and wing with chute and genoa. The genoa is 206 sq. ft versus the main's 151 sq. ft. Don't know how you could see where you're going though without a Crow's Nest.

I shackle a 6-inch SS 1/8" cable pendant with a snatch block on the forestay deck tang for the spinnaker tack sheet which leads back to the cockpit. The pendant slides around the furler drum without wearing.

The chute does move the boat nicely. I need more experience with it.

I have the standard Mac 26X spinnaker. I sail single handed and use the ATN sock and Tacker. I would recommend both. Last summer on a Beam, flying only the spinnaker I passed both a X and M with main and standard jib.

I got this response on 12,3 - "Still no large spinnakers available. Maybe by March."

Bill4, are you going to be able to offer a deal on the those kites then, if we cant get spinakers....... and you do have regular chutes for the x boats right?? how much heheheheh??

I am still interested in that concept of the free flying kite I posted on here......(IF I can ever figure out a way to do that safely single handed i'll have it made.)

I've got a pointsails spi 2 or 3 moths ago, and I use it practically all times I sail. I've got the ATN sock and tacker, and all work very well. Last sunday with app. wind between 6 and 9 knts., gps shows 5,5 to 6,3 knts (record for my Mac) with courses between 90 and 120.
