I am getting a 1988 Mac 26D. I am trading my Catalina 22 for it and hope I am not making a mistake. I have some Dagger questions that I hope yall can help me out with.
I notice the Dagger lines have been replaced. It might already be set up but would like the info just in case. How do I tell when the dagger is in the lowest position? Does anyone have a measurement from the top of the deck to the top of the dagger board when it’s at it’s lowest point? Maybe somewhere there is a measurement from the top deck to the top of the board that is available when it in the full down position. Also maybe a tech sheet showing the measurements?
Also how is this to be used? I have heard it needs to be 12” down when tacking and lowered all the way down when going upwind. Please share your experience with me since I’m going from a swing keel cat 22 to a 26 ballast boat.
Also was told that the PO had a racing dagger board made. I have not seen it yet but is to be included with the boat.

I read that you can look down the daggerboard trunk and make sure that the top of the board is above the water level in the trunk. I haven't been out on my boat in awhile but it seems to me that the board goes down in the trunk maybe 3-4 feet at the most.
When you begin sailing the boat, just sail with the dagger all the way down. Managing daggerboard depth is a performance improvement you can work on when you've got the rest of the sailing nailed.
You want the dagger all the way down when pointing, and all the way up when running. Between those points, it's a linear percentage down, so if you're on a beam reach, you want it half-way down and on a broad reach you want it 1/4 down.
