I'm a new owner of a 2006 26M and could use some insight about learning to set up and sail her. Her name is Spice and I am overjoyed to become her new master. Some of you may have seen her on her Bahamas adventure with the previous owners. I have been around boats off and on for many years but never owned one myself until now. I live in Central Florida and keep her safely tucked away behind my house on her trailer for now. If there are other MacGregor owners/members in the area feel free to contact me. I would enjoy talking and could use advice on places to launch and sail in the area. She is already set up for extended cruising with solar panels, refrigerator/freezer, propane cook stove, 40 gal water bladders, 50HP Honda and rides on a double axle Sea Lion trailer, I have a few more things to upgrade over time as the "Admiral" requires but for now I need to get her on the water and learn the "art" of sailing her. Being a "newbie", I expect to start slow and small before jumping into the deep blue with her. I want to know what I am doing before we take extended trips. I would like to explore inland waterways like the St. Johns River, lakes and ICW among others... Your suggestions and comments are welcomed. wojack

No particular suggestions, but welcome to the Mac world.
BTW, you might want to add your boat name, type (M) and year in your profile here on the forum. Helps when folks are answering your questions outside this thread. See mine as an example -------------->

Welcome!
I guess it's your turn to buy the pizza.
Take it slow and learn all you can. I cruised this site for months before ever getting my boat wet.
Get your family involved. The admiral will enjoy it much more if she feels she is part of planning etc.

Re: New Owner 2006 26M !
these guys are awesome on this site- they will help you heaps.
i do all my research- google, and the search function on this site- then i post my question, as my question will evolve and unfold as i read heaps.
i love my boat, get a little dissapointed when i find cheap factory blunders, or bad and hurried fitting by either the dealer or the factory. but it is what it is i geuss.
hopefully the PO ironed out all the wrinkles for you.
you're gonna have a blast!!!!

Re: New Owner 2006 26M !
There's a ton of practical sailing advice on this board--search this site on the names of each part of the boat to learn how to handle it best.
At first, I recommend focusing on motoring and taking sail handling in small doses as you get used to the boat. At the first sign of frustration from crew/admirals, don't be afraid to bail on the sail handling to keep the day fun for everyone.

It is an Edge Star. Seems to work quite well. I have yet to put it through its paces. I suppose I will find out one I put myself through the paces on the water!Wayne nicol wrote:what fridge freezer do you have on board?

We have the Edgestar. Works quite well for us. Keeps stuff nice and cold and dry without melting ice getting food soggy.wojack wrote:It is an Edge Star. Seems to work quite well. Re: New Owner 2006 26M !
Well hello there! Welcome to the small but loyal family of Mac owners. I'm sort of a newb myself with only a year of ownership on my 26M and only hours of actual sailing. I will tell you this site among others are a valuable tool. I live in Jacksonville, Fl and the St. Johns is my playground/training area. I travel to central Fl to see my family often. PM me if you wish for some advice. Good luck!
